This an introduction in Leuvens student life, with typical Leuven student scenes. We will look into a week of a student in Leuven, some useful tips that will make your life in Leuven easier and as Leuven as possible. At the end we will give you an overview of the biggest activities of the academic year. We will post this presentation on www.loko.be/international

MONDAY
Getting to class
Your first day in Leuven and time for your first class. How can you find your class room? 1. Find your course schedule on KU Loket, login and find my schedule/mijn lessenrooster 2. The class room is in your schedule with an abbreviation. You can find a google maps of all the building of KU Leuven on our website. 3. Plan your route with google maps from your home.

Dont have much time for lunch? Or not in the mood to cook? Alma Student Restaurants: the cheapest meals in town De Werf (Hogeschoolplein): a students favorite

Relaxing After Class/studying: Sports
After classes, students like to take a break. On Monday, that could be something sportive. Sports Card: a recommendation for sporters. Interfaculty Competition (IFB) via your facultys student union for football (indoor and outdoor), volleyball and basketball. Big sport events by LOKO Sport (first on Friday)

Dont have much time for lunch? Or not in the mood to cook? Sandwich Bars: Belegde broodjes is probably eaten the most for lunch. Tips: t Smullerke, Pinky, t Hoekske,

After classes, students like to take a break. On Tuesday, a drink in your fakbar? What the Fak? Fakbar Fakulteitsbar: Bar for students of the faculty. Run by student volunteers: cheap drinks

I would like to improve my language skills
Leuven is multicultural. You can find many native speakers here. If you want to improve your English, Dutch, French, There are many opportunities. On www.thinkabroad.be, we gave an overview of language classes, conversation groups, Check Language Should Not Be A Barrier.

In the mood for Belgian food?: L-caf (on Oude Markt): Belgian stoemp for a student budget (5 to 10 euro for a meal) Domus (Tiensestraat): Traditional Belgian dishes De Nachtuil (Krakenstraat): Belgian dishes until 3am. Leffe Caf (Bondgenotenlaan): Go there for stoofvlees. Njam!

Yes, we do eat more than fries. ;)

After classes, students like to take a break. Music, dance, theater? Culture houses: STUK, OPEK, 30CC, Het Depot, Museum M Discounts with culture card Want to follow art/music/dance/theater classes? Ask LOKO International where you can go. Theater group for internationals: Janus International Theater UurKultuur: Free for culture card holders LOKO Culture: organizes cultural activities from time to time. Artists wanted for Ithaka.

Dont have much time for lunch? Or not in the mood to cook? Another Alma Alternative. Thai House (Smetsplein): 4,50 euro for a delicious Thai lunch. 6 euro for dinner.

After classes, students like to take a break. Thursday night = Party night 1. Fakbars 2. TD Th Dansant: party organized by students for students. A lot in Albatros. Some in Alma II 3. International/intercultural events: www.thinkabroad.be 4. Oude Markt always parties

Where to get my course material?
Courses require course material. So after a week of classes, you might think its time to get your course material. Where could you go? Course Service of Faculty Student Union. Nowhere cheaper. Find it on our website. Second hand book shop: Polare (Bondgenotenlaan) Acco: student discounts Complaints? E-mail LOKO International

Dont wait too long to get your course material. Its hard to get the course material during Cram and exams. Course Service is closed.

FRIDAY
Relaxing After Class/studying: Where did all the Belgians go?
Perfect moment to get in touch with other weekenders in Pangaea for a drink.

Though, every day is a good day to go to Pangaea.

Exploring the city, Belgium and Europe
1. Trips with your student union, associations or Pangaea (check out their offer, they offer great deals) 2. Trips on your own - Belgium: 1. Exploring the surroundings: stop by at the tourist office (Naamsestraat) for great walks, tours, in and around Leuven 2. Belgium by train: Get a go pass. For 5 euro (-26) you can go everywhere. Check if a weekend pass isnt cheaper. 3. Trips around EU: 1. Megabus and Eurobus: cheap but good for close destinations 2. Eurail 3. Ryanair 4. Jet Air Fly
