History of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)
TCM is as old as Chinese history (5,000 years) itself. TCM is based upon clinical experiences of
many centuries and such experiences are as valid today as they were centuries ago. That is why
Chinese doctors attach great importance to Chinese medical classics, actual medical records of how
diseases were treated with herbs.

The most well known of these classics is Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Internal Medicine (Nei Jing),
written by a group of Imperial doctors around 3rd Century B.C. It established the fundamental
principles underlying all aspects of TCM, becoming the ultimate source for all subsequent
developments. The theories outlined in this medical classic are still followed by Chinese doctors even
today, signifying the immense importance of this medical classic.

A Chinese classic (Huai Nan) published during the Han Dynasty (206 B.C. - 24 A.D.) relates a story
about a Chinese emperor in ancient China who was said to have tasted herbal plants each day to test
its efficacy. The emperor was said to have been poisoned many times but he cured himself with
known plant antidotes. This emperor is credited with the origin of Chinese herbalism.

Why TCM
First of all, Western medicine (WM) focuses more on the treatment of symptoms whereas TCM
focuses more on causes. WM is more useful in first aid and surgery whereas TCM is better in treating
internal and chronic diseases. WM is strong and tends to produce serious side-effects (most are long
lasting) whereas TCM hardly produce any side-effects. In a research article — The Case for Natural
Med by Dr. Adriane Fugh-Berman, between 60,000 to 140,000 people suffer from adverse drug
reactions in USA annually as compared to none for herbs. In her book “Your Perfect Medicine”
(Future Medicine Inc. 1994), Martha M. Christy wrote, “According to FDA Director of OTC Drugs
Evaluation, Dr. William Gilbertson found that two thirds of the ingredients (drug) are found to be
unsafe and ineffective and these drugs are in the market”. In fact in his book “Alternative Medicine-
The Definitive Guide” (Future Medicine Publishing 1993), Mr. Burton Goldberg wrote “Traditional
Chinese Medicine has been chosen by the World Health Organisation (WHO) for worldwide
propagation to meet the health care needs of the Twenty First Century.”

Perfected Treatment System

Why has TCM been recognised throughout the world, even by WHO, as the number 1 alternative
treatment system? It is because of the acknowledged success of TCM in treating diseases. How do the
Chinese manage to perfect this art of internal healing through herbal formulations? There are 4
reasons:

1). The discovery of the pulse system: To the west there are 2 types of pulse: fast and slow. To a
TCM there are 28 types of pulse e.g. superficial pulse, rapid pulse, excess pulse, clotting pulse,
intermittent pulse, tight pulse etc. Using this knowledge and combining it with a secondary method of
diagnosis called physical observation (e.g. white or yellow tongue, ringing in the ears, red eyes, lower
backache, bulging fingers, colour of finger nails, etc.), the ancient Chinese have perfected the
understanding of how the body system works -how the liver and kidneys are inter related, how the
spleen affects the lungs, how the spleen and the stomach are inter related, how the liver and eyes are
closely related and how the liver affects tendons. With these combined knowledge, Chinese doctors
were able to discover and have complete understanding of how the 4 master systems work (lymphatic,
blood circulatory, respiratory and digestive system) how they influence, control and govern all the
other secondary system, sub-systems and the main organs in our body. (For more information go to:
http://www.nutrihuang.com/Treatment_Pathology.htm. With this in-depth and accurate
knowledge of how the human body functions, Chinese doctors are able to perfect herbal formulas to
treat diseases firstly through self administered clinical trials, supervised by their peers and later to
patients. Through this ancient method of clinical trials, without modern corporate interference, this

Page 2
healing system was gradually perfected. The ancient Chinese spent several thousand years
formulating, practicing and refining this herbal knowledge. We are lucky enough to have with us
today those herbal formulas that work. What didn't were discarded a long time ago.
2). Antidote: The Chinese discovered a system of plant antidotes that can neutralize some herbs that
are too potent for the human body. The strength of these herbs needed to be toned down so that they
can be consumed.

3) Unique group of servant herbs: Chinese doctors discovered that some herbs have the unique
ability to draw the prescribed herbs to the area that needs to be treated.

4) Herbal paradise: China has more then 10,000 types of medicinal herbal plants. Without such a
miraculously unique complete range of herbs the treatment system cannot be perfected.

A qualified Chinese doctor takes about 15 to 20 years to train under the watchful eyes of a master.
During this period the master teaches the student on a one to one basis, on how the body functions,
how to diagnose, how to prepare herbs, how to formulate, etc. It is a day and night education for 15 to
20 years. He would need to have a thorough knowledge of 1, 2 and 3 above and have an in-depth
knowledge of at least 600 types of herbs before he can be considered a herbal doctor. From this he
must know which are king herbs, subject herbs, assistant herbs or servant herbs.

By the time they qualify they are truly doctors in every sense of the word.

Perfected Formulas
The above method is a dying art. Modern people do not have the time to go through such long and
intense education. What Awal Mart is now marketing are perfect standardized formulations that have
been used by Malaysians for the last 70 years, formulated by a master physician, the ancestor of the
current owners of Nutri-Huang, who came from China about a hundred years ago.

What is Yin and Yang

Traditional Chinese Medicine herbal system of treatment and rejuvenation is based on a holistic eco-
system concept of prevention and restoration or commonly called yin and yang (YY). There are many
facets of YY. The YY concept of disease is the study of cause and effect. The YY concept of
physiology looks at storage of energy and usage of energy. The YY concept of healing is the study of
function and material.

Let’s look at what is “yin-yang concept of function and material”. The best is to use an analogy. If
you need to repair a broken-down house but you have too much material and not the right type of
workers the job will never get done. Conversely, if you have the right type of workers but no
materials, the job will also not get done. Therefore you need to strike a balance.

Is TCM a proven treatment system?

Three Stages of Truth: To fully understand the whole process of an argument, we need to know one
thing. As in any other field of knowledge, there are 3 steps of truths regarding health.
1. Something is true but nobody knows about it yet.
E.g. long ago scientists thought that the earth is flat.
2. Something is true and some people know about it through experience.
E.g. tea prevents scurvy is true today as it was true from time immemorial even though nobody
knows about it, this is truth at the first stage. When the truth has been discovered in human
experience, they are truths at the second stage. In the middle of the Eighteenth Century, many
seamen on board western ships had been critically ill or even died from a disease now known as
scurvy. But the same ordeal was a rare phenomenon among Chinese seamen because they were
drinking tea. The Chinese through their common experience discovered that tea is beneficial to
health.

Page 3
3. Something is true that has been verified by scientists. When Dr. Albert Szent-Gyorgyi
successfully isolated Vitamin C in 1937 as a prevention of scurvy, it became truth at the third
stage.

Chinese herbal formulas are at second stage of truth. If you go to www.nutrihuang.com, you will see
that scientists all over the world have done researches on the herbs used by Nutri-Huang and have
proved the incredible efficacy of these natural herbal plants used by Nutri-Huang for treating
such diseases.

The Four Treatment Concepts are:

1) Cleanse and Detox (“cheng”)
2) Treat and Restore (“koi”)
3) Rejuvenate and Revitalize (“ooi”)
4) Nourish (“poh”)

Undisputed Evidences
In 1964 a study by Peking College of Chinese Medicine revealed that the average life span of Chinese
physicians was 80.56 years. Whereas a survey conducted by WHO in 1977 showed that the average
age of Western physicians was 59.93 years. The most celebrated Chinese physician is Li Ching Yuen
who had a life span of 248 years (His death was reported by New York Times in 1930). His food was
predominantly herbs. These are some of the immortalized words of Chinese physicians, “A person
who really knows how to nourish the body should keep good foods and herbs handy”, “Herb is food,
food is herb.” and “Anyone over 50 years old should take tonics all year round; such are the secrets of
nourishing to enjoy longevity”.

Two Chinese emperors were famous for their longevity due to their firm beliefs in Chinese medicine
and their regular practise of taking kidney tonics. The Emperor Jia-Jing (1507-1566) lived for 59
years and Emperor Qian-Long lived for 88 years. This may not raise an eyebrow until you realise that
the average life span of Chinese emperors was only 45-50 years.

When doctors are sick themselves, or when they wish to live a long life, they will usually follow
prescriptions or a course of treatment based on their own medical knowledge. The fact that Chinese
physicians of traditional medicine have managed to live a longer life than their Western counterparts
demonstrates to what extent their medical knowledge is a reliable guide to longevity.

The evidence is undisputable. It is written in their lives.

Introdcution to Herbal Industry
Worldwide Herbal Revival
In his book “Alternative Medicine — The Definitive Guide (Future Medicine Publishing 1993), Mr.
Burton Goldberg wrote “Traditional Chinese medicine has been chosen by the World Health
organisation (WHO) for worldwide propagation to meet the health care needs of the Twenty First
Century.” Traditional Chinese medicine is a widely accepted and historically proven ethical health
program. Spurred by the safe and excellent results of traditional Chinese herbal medicine, more and
more Americans are turning to alternative health care system. Dr. David Eisenberg in his research
article (Unconventional Medicine in the U.S.) discovered that 52% of the American population turned
to alternative health care system in 1991. By 1995, in another research by Deidre O’Connors
(Integrating Management Care and Alternative Medicine — San Francisco USA — Dec 1st 1995),
74% of the American population now prefers the natural approach. WHO estimated that
approximately 78% of the world’s population use herbal products. Basically there are two main
reasons:
1. Traditional herbal medicine IS safe.
In a research article — The Case for Natural Med by Dr. Adriane Fugh-Berman, between
60,000 to 140,000 people suffer from adverse drug reaction annually as compared to none for
herbs.
(Source: American Association of Poison Control Centres, Journal of Medical Association and
Consumer Product Safety Commission FDA report)
2. Western drug is unsafe (side effects) and ineffective. In her book “Your Perfect Medicine
(Future Medicine Inc. 1994), Martha M. Christy wrote, “According to FDA Director of OTC
Drugs Evaluation, Dr. William Gilbertson found that two thirds of the ingredients (drug) are
found to be unsafe and ineffective and these drugs are in the market.

Not Proven
Western mind says that herbal products are not proven. Why do they say that? Traditional herbal
products are based on formulation (unlike allopathic drugs that use single concentrated chemical that
is usually very destructive to the body). Herbal formulation cannot be based on laboratory research
because the immense complexity of a herbal formula made it far too costly and time-consuming. How
to do research on a single formula that has 500 to 3,000 phyto-nutrients? (Plant nutrients) Where does
a scientist start? Herbal formulas are secret recipes, therefore they would not do research because it
does not bring them economic benefit as herbal formulation is very difficult to patent. With one stroke
of a pen, they say that herbal products are not proven. Once you try to “dismantle” the formula by
isolating the different active ingredients individually, it no longer works. In the Sun newspaper (July
22, 2001), two New Zealand scientists reported that research shows that deer velvet is not effective in
enhancing sexual performance. But if you know how to combine deer velvet with the right type of
herbs, the result is incredible with no side effects.

No Cure
Western mind has no concept of rejuvenation because they have not discovered the secret yet. When
organs are weakened or damaged, the concept of strengthening these organs through rejuvenation
does not exist in western science and so they say there is no cure. One western scientist says ‘When
doctors say there is no cure, what they actually mean is that they do not know how.” When herbal
formulas are used to strengthen these organs, they say it is not proven. The immense complexity of
herbal formulation (too many phyto-nutrients) makes it impossible for western science to do research
because it is too costly to try to determine which group of phyto-nutrients is doing the work. They
would not do research on a particular herbal product to prove that it works because it does not bring

Page 5
them economic benefits because the formula is a secret and they cannot reproduce it. Therefore, they
would just say there is “no cure and not proven”.

Not too long ago, western science said that there is no cure for prostate cancer. In a local newspaper
article (NST May 28, 2000), scientists in America tested the Chinese claim that a formula made up of
seven Chinese herbs can be used to treat prostate cancer effectively. They found it to be true and
quickly patented the product. The term “daylight robbery” has taken on a new meaning. The Western
scientist did not know which combination of the phyto-nutrients in the formula is doing the work. All
they know is that the formula works. It is the same with any other Chinese herbal formula. It is very
difficult to explain scientifically but that does not mean it does not work. When they say “no cure”, it
means they have insufficient knowledge to treat a particular ailment.

Chinese herbal formulas are at second stage of truth. The Chinese Ancient Manuscripts are based
on actual clinical experience of generations and generations of Chinese physicians through
scientific observation. The western scientists do it in the laboratory on rats and monkeys whereas the
Chinese physicians’ data and results are from their patients. Rats and monkeys are not the same as
humans. If they do not work, how did the Chinese take care of their health problems for the last 4,500
years. Therefore, the conclusion is this, if I do not have the technology to circle the earth or if I refuse
to take an airplane and circle the earth (because it does not bring me economic benefit), it does not
give me the right to say the earth is flat. In the same manner, if western scientists do not know how to
formulate herbs and if they do not know how to identify which group of ingredient is actually doing
the work or if they refuse to do research on the whole formulation itself to verify the claims, it does
not give them the right to say it is not proven or no cure.

Concept of Rejuvenation — A Holistic System

The Chinese physicians discovered that the body has self-healing properties. Given the right nutrients
and stimulus, the body has great capacity to heal itself. The problem is that our normal food does not
contain all the essential nutrients (because of poor eating habits) necessary to maintain a healthy body.
Each time we fall ill and take western drugs, the body suffers more and more damage and eventually
the system becomes weaker and weaker.

Herbs contain rich essential nutrients that usually cannot be found in our everyday diet but are very
essential to maintain a healthy body. For example, Ginseng contains ginsengnosides that cannot be
found in normal everyday food but has been cherished as a disease preventer (adjuvant) and life
preserver. Herbal formulations contain between ten to fifty types of herbs, A normal formulation
easily contains several hundreds phyto-nutrients. As a result of this rich combination, the body
receives multiple benefits. In the long run, consuming products based on herbal formulation is far
more cost effective. It is like a powerful and effective bullet killing ten enemy soldiers in one go.
Sometimes, Western pseudo-herbalists try to use ten bullets just to kill a soldier. Sometimes they do
not manage to kill any at all.

In Chinese pharmacology, the five most important organs are the kidneys, liver, heart, spleen and
lungs and the four important system are lymphatic, blood circulatory, respiratory and digestive
system. Western science only now realizes that the kidney is the most important organ in the body.
Kidneys are the “gateway to life”. In olden days, this is true. In modern days, the scenario has
changed somewhat. A large proportion of our food is contaminated. Meats contain growth hormones,
vegetables contain pesticides and industrial pollutants and fish contain preservatives. In addition to
that, our affluent society has created diseases of the affluent - diseases of the circulatory system like
high blood pressure, stroke, heart failure, arteriosclerosis, etc. Therefore to keep our body healthy has
become more challenging.

The Chinese focus on organs and its system because it is discovered that once the whole system is
healthy, it has tremendous self-healing properties. Chinese herbal remedies have long been
acknowledged to have excellent nourishing, preventive and restorative properties. That is why a

Page 6
strong and healthy person sometimes does not need to take medicine for flu/cold or food poisoning
but only need to drink lots of water and rest because the body has self-healing properties. The organs
would produce antibodies and immune cells to fight these pathogenic influences. As the years go by,
these capabilities are weakened because our system slowly runs down due to modern living
conditions.
Instead of symptomatic treatment, the Chinese physician uses the holistic approach. For example, for
gastric problems, instead of taking medicine to neutralize the acidity of the stomach to provide
temporary relief, the Chinese physician heals the stomach ulceration to prevent future acid attack as
well as support the spleen because the function of the stomach and the spleen are inter-related. (Try
our X-Gas-3 and if you are not happy with the result please come and see us). Symptomatic treatment
is providing temporary relief (bluffing the body) and allowing the underlying problem to deteriorate
further.

The Chinese Pharmacological System

The Chinese pharmacological system is fully aware that consuming single herbs as a long- term
medication has its side effects. Single herbs by themselves are also not effective in treating illness.
Over thousands of years, the Chinese have perfected a system of herbal formulation that produces
effective products. These perfected herbal formulas are based on an in-depth knowledge of each herb.
This type of knowledge cannot be acquired using laboratory research. It has to be based upon
centuries of actual clinical experiences. To perfect a formula, 10 years of laboratory research are not
enough. In China alone, you can find approximately 10,000 types of herbs. Knowing the exact
function and side effects of each herb is one thing, to combine them into a time tested and product
tested formula is another. It is monumental tasks that even a super computer cannot perform.

Laboratory research is misleading. Western scientists/herbalists constantly and erroneously boast

about the strength of their research. Recently, a newspaper article reported that research shows that
vitamin C by itself instead of preventing cancer can cause cancer. They discover recently not Vitamin
alone does not provide immunity against attack of flu and cold. Every time a group would come up
and say research has found that ….. , ten years later, another group would say the previous group is
wrong. Thirty years ago, it was balanced diet. Now you must take supplements. Fifteen years ago,
cholesterol from eggs is bad. Now they say there is no link. Fifty years ago, Estrogen Replacement
Therapy (ERT) was the answer to women’s menopause problem. Now they discover estrogen can
cause cancer. A pharmaceutical factory producing estrogen had to be shut down. The list goes on.

What researchers have done and they are continuing to do so is to identify the main ingredient found
in the product and claim that it is the work of this main ingredient. One western scientist wrote
“Current western medicines drive on roads, Chinese herbal therapies travel on horseback, even riding
across the countryside where cars cannot go.” What they have now realized is that Chinese herbal
formulation can do what drugs cannot do.

1. Keys to Formulation — “The Chinese Herbal Code”

The “Herbal Code” of Chinese herbal products is in the strength of its immensely complicated
formulation system. A standard formula consists of king herb, subject herb, assistant herb and
servant herb. The primary herb in the formula is called the king herb, the herb included in the
formula to assist the king herb is called the subject herb in that formula and the herb included in
the formula to be responsible to the subject herb is called the servant herb. Sometimes, a formula
may have a king herb that also plays the role of a subject herb. In a formula, the king herb is used
to treat the main problem. Sometimes, the main problem is caused by dysfunction of two organs
and two king herbs are used. The subject herbs assist the king herbs in two different ways; to
reinforce the king herb from a different angle and to treat the concurrent syndrome. The assistant
herbs play three major roles. Assist the king herb to deal with minor problems. It can control the
undesirable drastic actions of the king herb and subject herb or to eliminate their toxic effects and
it can supplement the action of the king herb. The servant herb plays two basic roles - it can direct
the formula to the affected region and it can harmonize the herbs in the formula. For western
scientists to master this knowledge, it would probably take one thousand years.

Page 7
2. Keys to Treatment — The Pulse System of Diagnosis
The important key to developing the “Herbal Code” is the Chinese discovery of the pulse system
and its relation to the health of the organs. To a western doctor, there are 2 types of pulses - fast
and slow. The Chinese have discovered that there are 28 types of pulses. To name some of them:
full pulse, disappearing pulse, tight pulse, soft pulse, drumming pulse, persisting pulse, shaking
pulse and frequency related pulses - slow and rapid. Using this knowledge and combining it with
a secondary method of diagnosis called physical observation (e.g. white or yellow tongue, ringing
in the ears, fiery eyes, colour of finger nails, etc.), the ancient Chinese have perfect understanding
of how the body system works -how the liver and kidneys are inter related, how the spleen affects
the lungs, how the spleen and the stomach are inter related, how the liver and eyes are closely
related and how the liver affects tendons. Are the organs and system functioning properly? Are
there signs of deficiency? Is the system running down? Is it due to food or disease? Etc.

Throwing Money Out Of The Window

When your body persistently craves for food, it is telling you that it needs to be properly nourished.
Without the right type of food, the craving would not stop. The so-called western health experts will
always tell you to eat, eat and eat. They tell you that your body is like that because you need more
vitamins. (99% of vitamins are now synthesized in laboratories and they are derivatives of petroleum.)
More vitamins like calcium, more rich food like spirulina, more Omega-3, more protein, more
enzymes, more detoxification products, etc.

Cellular supplement concept is very dangerous to health, over long-term. There are two reasons.
Firstly it is masking the problem just like taking paracetamol for headache. For example, you can
improve the performance of a car without repairing it by adding super fuel to make it pick up and
accelerate faster. But the worn out parts have not been repaired. Recently someone has been taking for
5 years a type of supplement called “food for the cell” from USA. This is to improve efficiency of the
cells without repairing the dysfunction organs. A friend who is familiar with health adviced him to go
for a proper check up by a qualified herbal doctor who is good at taking pulse because his face was
pale and the hands were icy cold even though he felt good (a sign of metabolic exhaustion i.e. the
cells have been overworking to prop him up). Without telling the doctor about his symptoms the
herbal doctor accurately told him everything. The bottom line was, the doctor told him his lymphatic
and blood circulatory systems are in a very bad state. The doctor told him that he is in danger of
having a stroke attack.

Secondly if your body organs are not functioning at its optimum, what you eat, your body cannot
digest or it cannot be absorbed or it cannot be retained, etc. What happens is that it either passes out or
leaks out.

For example, western scientists now realize that of all the 5 main organs, the kidneys are the most
important organs. The Chinese discovered this thousands of years ago. The kidneys are called “the
gateway to life”. If your kidneys are not functioning properly, whatever you eat would slowly leak
out. It is like a leaking reservoir. Untreated, the leak gets bigger and bigger and eventually no matter
how much supplements you eat, your other organs would get weaker and weaker and more prone to
disease because of lack of nourishment and not enough antioxidants to fight the free radicals (toxins).

The solution is to plug the leak. There is no point in spending hundreds or thousands per month on
cell food, friendly bacteria or spirulina. If your organs are functioning well, what you eat, your body
can digest efficiently, absorb efficiently and utilize efficiently. As a result, your normal balanced diet
is enough to sustain and defend against external and internal attacks. That is why Chinese physicians
use herbal formulation to provide extra nourishment and corrective support to the body system.

Do not try to go and buy an umbrella after the rain has started.

Page 8
Take the advice of great Chinese physicians and you would lead a healthy life. These are some of the
immortalized words of Chinese physicians, “A person who really knows how to nourish the body
should keep good foods and herbs handy”, “Herb is food, food is herb.” and “Anyone over 50 years
old should take tonics all year round; such are the secrets of nourishing to enjoy longevity”.

The evidence is undisputable. It is written in their lives. All of them lived to a ripe old age.
Systems in our Body: A Proven Herbal Health System
Traditional Chinese Medicine treatment knowledge is backed by 5,000 years of proven rich history.
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a historically proven herbal system of ethical health therapies.
Our body is a self sustaining complex eco-system. Over the years through synthetic chemical abuses
and unhealthy lifestyle, these internal delicate systems, without our knowledge, can be messed up.

Traditional Chinese Medicine ethical herbal system of treatment and rejuvenation is based on a
holistic eco-system concept of prevention and restoration. Based on this concept, once the organs
and the systems are healthy and functioning properly, the body would be healthy because the organs
and its systems would “know how” to create a healthy cell environment or rejuvenate a
rundown/damaged system. Our body is a self sustaining eco-system. Once someone reaches the age
of 35 and above at least one or two organs and one or two maybe more of the systems would begin to
show signs of damage or rundown because of the food and synthetic chemicals we take. One needs to
"service" the main "engine system" of the body i.e. the five organs (5 elements) and any affected
system to ensure that the engine is kept running smoothly.

The Five Organs and its Systems

Based on observations of the natural world, the ancient Chinese after 5,000 of clinical experience
recognized that our body like our earth is continuously in a state of transformation and change. The 5
elements (wood, fire, earth, metal and water) like our body’s 5 main organs liver, heart, spleen, lung
and kidney must be maintained in harmony or else disruptions would take place e.g. a weak spleen
(responsible for maintaining the body’s immunity) would affect the functions of the lungs because the
lungs are the only internal organs that are exposed to the outside influence e.g. bacteria and virus.

In TCM the 5 most important primary organs in our body are the heart, lungs, kidneys, liver and
spleen. They (together with other sub-systems) form a complex system that helps to keep our body
healthy. Majority of diseases can be traced back to the dysfunction of one of these organs or a
combination of these organs and its inter-connected systems. 80% of those suffering from regular
colds and flu can be traced back to weak lung problems. Insomnia is usually caused by dysfunction of
3 organs. Gastritis is caused by the dysfunction of 2 organs.

1) Kidneys: They belong to the water element. The kidneys support the birth, development and
maturation of humans and store essence just as water supports the growth and development of plants.
In TCM the kidneys are known as the root of life. That is why when kidneys fail, the rest of the
organs and body would start to be affected.

2) Kidneys and Heart: The heart promotes the flow of blood. The kidney’s function is to store
essence (i.e. prevent leakage e.g. protein). Blood and essence form the essential substances in
maintaining healthy life and activities. The kidney essence can transform into blood, and the blood
can transform into essence. When both work efficiently, all other organs benefit from this harmony.

3) Kidneys and Liver: The liver promotes flowing and releasing of energy (qi) movements. It also
stores the blood and regulates the supply. The kidneys enhance and nourish the liver so it can function
normally. In partnership the liver through blood promotes the flowing and releasing movements while
the kidneys promote storing functions.

Page 9
4) Kidneys and Lungs: The lungs draw clear external qi and the kidneys store internal qi (essence).
In order to have strong and clear respiration, the kidneys must be strong. In TCM when a kidney starts
to fail, it can lead to respiratory problems like difficulty in inhaling with longer exhalation times. In
TCM, this is called failure to retain the breathing qi in the kidneys.

5) Kidneys and Spleen: While the kidneys are regarded as the root of life, the spleen is regarded as
the source of qi and blood production. The two organs mutually nourish and promote each other. In
TCM, the spleen promotes digestion because it rules transformation and transportation. It is the
primary organ for digestion, absorption and distribution of nutrient essences to the entire body. In
order to work properly, the spleen depends on the warming and propelling activities of kidney-yang.

The 5 main organs together with the 5 yang organs, composing of the gall bladder, large and small
intestine, stomach and bladder together with the three burners, forms the 4 master systems in our
body: the lymphatic, the blood circulatory, the respiratory and the digestive systems. The key to
good health is to keep the 4 master systems healthy and in good working condition.

The blood circulatory system is like the pipe system in the house and the lymphatic system is like the
drainage system. The blood circulatory system brings oxygen and food to sustain the body. It also
provides defense and helps to remove solid waste from the body. The lymphatic system apart from
defending the body against infections also helps to remove liquid waste through its extensive drainage

1) Blood circulatory system: The major organs that keep the blood circulatory system in good
functioning state are the blood vessels, heart and the liver. The heart is like a pumping station and the
liver is the reservoir. Some of the diseases associated with this system are hypertension, high
cholesterol, arteriosclerosis, poor blood circulation, cold hands and feet, angina, breathlessness, high
blood fats, liver cirrhosis, fatty liver, hepatomegaly, cardiac insufficiency and edema. Symptoms of
blood circulatory disorder are dry throat, heaty feeling all the time, blood short eyes, weak pulse,
frequent headache, constipation, edema and red furry tongue. How do you know if you have blood
circulatory problems? If you have a combination of 2 or 3 of the external and internal symptoms then
you have or are starting to develop blood circulatory disease.

2) Lymphatic system: The major organs that keep the lymphatic system in healthy state are the spleen,
kidneys and the lungs. Some of the diseases associated with this system are bronchitis, asthma,
sinusitis, frequent cough and flu, excessive perspiration, lower backache, ED problems. Some of the
symptoms associated with lymphatic disorder are stuffy nose, phlegm, difficulty in breathing, cold
hand and feet, joint pain, muscle ache, sagging muscles and bosom, wrinkle skin, unable to regulate
body temperature, cold sweat, aversion to cold weather or environment, night sweat, edema and
frequent urination. How do you know if you have lymphatic problems? If you have a combination of
2 or 3 of the external and internal symptoms then you have or are starting to develop lymphatic
disease.

3) Digestive system: The organs keeping the digestive system healthy are the stomach, spleen, gall
bladder and the intestines. Symptoms of digestive disorder are gastric problems, frequent indigestion
problems, poor appetite, flatulence, bloatedness and constipation. How do you know if you have
digestive problems? If you frequently suffer from any one of these problems then you have digestive
problems.

4) Respiratory system: The organs keeping the respiratory system healthy are the lungs and the
spleen. Symptoms of respiratory disorder are frequent cough, cold and flu, frequent hot hands and feet
at night and excessive perspiration. How do you know if you have respiratory problems? If you
frequently suffer from any one of these problems then you have respiratory problems.

The Danger of Phlegm and Blood Combined

What happen when the Lymphatic System suffers from dampness and the Blood Circulatory
System suffers from blood stagnation? The end result is tumor.

The lady has been using Nutri-Huang’s Lymphatic and Blood Circulatory products to treat her
condition. The result clear shows that TCM knows what it takes to restore dysfunction systems.

Phlegm 1
Phlegm on the surface of blood.
Eventually more and more
phlegm would surround and wrap
around blood and slowly a tiny
tumour would form. Left
unchecked, blood vessels would
start to form around it and will
feed the tumor causing it to grow
larger.

Phlegm 2
Phlegm being slowly dislodged
and removed using TCM herbs.

Phlegm 3
Almost total removal of phlegm

When a benign tumor is formed it becomes a dangerous time bomb. As time goes by, when toxin
(from food that are carcinogenic like BBQ food, fast food and food high in preservative, and drugs),
begins to accumulate in the body, it would eventually trigger the cells in the tumor to mutate. This
uncontrolled mutation is what we call cancer; a most dreaded disease. That is why in herbalogy,
cancer is always treated with herbs that contain very high in anti-oxidant.

Page 11
It is not a condition, as we are let to believe, whereby “one fine day our cells just decide to mutate”.
This is not how tumors are formed. It all starts with phlegm clinging to blood and eventually wraping
around it to finally form a tiny tumor.
