Representatives and recruiters from several graduate schools around the region visited Rust College for the annual Graduate School Day, held Monday, September 16. Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors were all invited to speak with representatives about their options for graduate studies. Schools included the University of Memphis, The University of Mississippi (Ole Miss), Jackson, State University, Delta State University, Alabama A&M, Arkansas State University and many more. Graduating senior Shana Hampton of Chicago was eager to speak to recruiters. Shana is currently majoring in Child Care Management and working on a double minor of Business Education and Early Childhood Education. However, when asked what she would like to do for a living? I want to be a dentist, she said laughing. I really like working with kids though, so maybe pediatric dentistry. One day I want to open my own practice. Shana said programs like Graduate School Day are instrumental to making the transition out of school. Graduate School Day is a great idea! It helps give us different options to choose from and lets us know that we can continue school after undergrad. The recruiters are all very lenient; finding ways to work with us and keep us motivated.

BY THEIR FRUITS

Recruiters also had kind words about the students. Your students have been all so classy and nice, said Sarah Davis, Graduate Recruiter for Freed-Hardeman University. She, along with Dr. Karen L. Cypress, Director of Graduate Studies at Freed-Hardeman, said they were very impressed with the students and their interest in continuing their education. We have really enjoyed talking to the students here today. Theyve all been so polite and interested in the programs we have! said Dr. Cypress. Ms. Davis and Dr. Cypress say they attend 20-30 college fairs each year and find programs such as Graduate School Day really help increase their enrollment. Even with everything going online these days, its still nice to see and talk face to face to students and to be able to answer their questions right then, said Ms. Davis.

Dr. Janet G. Kelly, Enrollment Management Coordinator for Middle Tennessee State University Graduate School was also excited to speak with students about different graduate options.

Dr. Janet G. Kelly, Enrollment Management Coordinator of Middle Tennessee State University also says she was impressed with the students who visited the MTSU table, as well as Melissa Malinoski, Admissions Associate for Memphis Theological Seminary. Programs like this allow us to interact with students, said Malinoski. She is a graduate of Memphis Theological Seminary and has been working with the seminary for two years. Most students have to have a specific calling to stop at our table, she said. But that is okay, with our program, we only need a dedicated few. Graduate School Day Coordinator John Peaches says 166 students attended, and there were 20 institutions represented.
