This gives a detailed breakdown of the Wellcome Trust's income, expenditure and investments from 1 October 2007 to 30 September 2008.

The net investment base (after bond liabilities) of the Wellcome Trust Group was £13.1 billion at 30 September 2008, compared with £15.1 billion at 30 September 2007.

The overall investment return was a negative return of 10.8 per cent during the financial year (2007: positive return of 17.0 per cent).

Charitable commitments of the Group were increased to a record level of £702 million during the year, compared with £520 million for the previous year.
