EDITORIAL
I am really felt blessed and gratified to be a partof this wonderful forum, the North East IndiaResearch Forum and it is my great pleasure toavail privilege to write something from editorial board in this issue of N. E. Quest.First of all, I would like to thank, Dr. ArindamAdhikari on behalf of all members of North EastResearch Group who is the founder of thiswonderful forum. In the first issue, in hisinspiring editorial column he wrote very honestlyand sincerely, how this idea came to his mindand how much he had to do before launching it.Obviously, the NE Quest is a wonderful giftfrom him to all of us.People like, Dr. Arindam should be ideal for allof us as they have the quality to think out of the box for the well being of the society curving outa particular social issue and focussing it in ahigher level with right objectives and perspectives connecting with up-to-dateinformation, knowledge, experiences andemotional intellectuals. So, they are our leader, people’s leader. As he clearly stated in hiseditorial the objective of the forum is to connectthe researchers from North East India so that thegreater advantages of sciences could reach thesocial causes of this scientifically backward partof India. Unquestionably, hailing from thiswonderful part of India, we could comprehend better the problems of this regions and it is our duty as well as responsibility to solve our  problems ourselves at our level. What I feel, thefirst and foremost duty of the scientificcommunity to change our attitude with the helpof science so that we can evolve out as not onlywonderful citizen of India but also beautifulhuman being of the world. For that, every one of us needs to have a scientific attitude to see our  problem and the approach to solve them in ascientific way. Science education at all levelsonly can make aware people to see their  problems scientifically. It needs a greatawareness programs to reach every one of thesociety. So, it is an uphill task for all of us and personally, I feel, it is the right initiation, right beginning to do things right collectively. Surely,we can expect its ripple effect in the comingyears soon.I would like to cite one example from SadguruJaggi Vasudev’s preach over unscientific ritualin our society how attitude is important for socialchange. When the Gujarat earthquake happened, about 100000 people died. Some of from our society want to correlate it with the God’s angrywith us. All of us with scientific out look knowthat an Earth quake is just Mother Earthstretching herself a little bit. It has always beenhappening. It is just that in India, if the smallestthing happens, 100000 people die. It is becauseof population density. In other parts of the world,an earthquake would not be a major issue.Everyday there are tremors Japan but casuality isless because they have taken necessary precaution and care about how to build their  buildings, how to live there, how to be consciousabout this. We have not done anything; we are acountry that’s still in God’s hands. Unless wetake it into our hands we will be a total mess. This is only one example and we can citethousand of such examples from different partsof our NE region where superstition or lack of scientific out look is still major issue of concern. The present time most stressing and pressingglobal issue like global warming only couldresolve through change in looking of everycountry into it with a scientific mind. So, I am,like all of you expecting to use of science notonly for personal growth or growth of somesmall groups of people but to reach the wholehuman society. Of course, if some one(s) of thisforum inspired and benefited to grow atindividual level to reach some one like Newtonor Einstein, we would have really a ground to behappy and proud out of it. But, as social beingwe should think for our fellow being at our level best. Therefore, the North East India ResearchForum should widen its objectives and work infuture so that it could reach every individual of the society for its better and greater objective and perspective of life.I am giving more stress in attitude, as Ithoroughly believe like all of you that rightattitude is the key to get famous, success andhappiness in the society. People with greateducation and absolutely brilliant brains can failin life because of their wrong attitude. Attitudeaffects not only our own performance; it also has profound effect on the attitude of people aroundus. We all inherit a temperament, which is sumtotal of our feelings and reactions. It dictates howwe behave and is reflected in our over all personality.

So, to make a positive change allaround us we should work on our temperamentfirst. That’s why Amy Tan rightly says, “If youcan’t change your fate, change your attitude”.-Tankeswar Nath
