DearMembers,I could well remember the day when Ireceived the invitation to join in theNorth East India Research Forum fromnone other than Dr. Arindam Adhikari.Although I have been associated with theactivities of other groups also, but thisforum’s activities are somethingdifferent in its quality, sense andflavours. At that time the strength of thegroup was quite small, in double figures.Gradually it expanded and now we are intriple figures, which indicates that weare in the right track moving forward. Itis the sincere effort of Dr. Adhikari whoat the beginning (the most difficultphase), used to invite people to join inthis forum. But now, we are in a muchcomfortable position that peoplevoluntarily come and put forward theirmembership. Again, most of themembers in this group belong to thediscipline of chemical sciences when thegroup was started, however, at thepresent moment; we have members fromother disciplines also like physics,biology, computer sciences etc, anotherpluspoint for the forum. We have alsofew members from the eighth state of theNortheast India, Sikkim.The status of the group has reached anhonorable height by the introduction of eminent personalities like Dr. DipankarMedhi, Dr. Dulal Borthakur etc. whosevaluable suggestions and guidance willhelp us in climbing the ladder of success.One of the objectives of this forum is tobring the students/ researchers/scientists /academicians in to a common platformso that we can have better exchange of ideas, views, and knowledge for thegreater interest of the northeast region of India in particular and to the scientificcommunity in general. In this context,the news letter of this forum plays a verycrucial role. From this issue we havestarted the column of invited article. Theforum is also inclined to the society. Forthat our first step would be to have astrong foundation so that the other layerscould be built up upon that.I feel immense pleasure and honored forgetting the opportunity to be the editorof the 3
rd
issue of the newsletter of theNortheast India Research Forum. In fact,I was thrilled when Dr. Adhikarirequested me to take over thatresponsibility on my shoulder.To wind up, I can say with sincerity andconfidence that I have gained a lot fromthis group’s activities also interactingwith other members individually. I amsure; the other members also have thesame feelings.I wish a grand success and longer life of this forum.
