 Day 1: Quito to Cusco
oday we arrive in the historic city o Cusco, at 3,326 m above sea level. According to Inca legend, the city wasbuilt by Sapa Inca Pachacuti, the man who transormed the Kingdom o Cusco rom a sleepy city-state intothe vast empire o ahuantinsuyu. Archaeological evidence however, points to a slower, more organic growtho the city beginning beore Pachacuti. Te original Inca city, said to have been ounded in the eleventhcentury, was sacked by Pizarro in 1535. Tere are original Incan architecture remains at the palace o theIncas, the emple o the Sun and the emple o the Virgins o the Sun. Aer settling into our ve-star hotel, aconverted 16th-century monastery with period art on the walls and oxygenated rooms, we will have a chanceto explore the city by oot beore dinner.
 Day 2: Te Sacred Valley
Aer a leisurely breakast, we head out o Cusco to explore the Sacred Valley o the Incas which windsthrough the Andes. Fed by numerous rivers that descend through adjoining valleys and gorges, the valley contains signicant archaeological remains and villages. One o the Inca empire’s main points or theextraction o natural wealth, it was also the best place or maize production in Peru. Here we have a chanceto visit the historic sites o Pisac, with it’s agricultural terraces, citadel and still-running water, the ortress o Ollantaytambo and a number o other sights along the way. Overnight in Ollantaytambo.

 Day 3: Ollantaytambo to Machu Picchu
In the morning we depart rom Ollantaytambo by train, bound or MachuPicchu. Te Vistadome rain with its ample glass, provides great views on the 1.5hour journey alongside the Inca rail. Upon arrival, we check into the luxuriousInkaterra Hotel, set in a secluded orest, at the periphery o Aguas Calientes (MachuPicchu Pueblo). In the aernoon we visit town and have an opportunity or a bird,nature or orchid walk through the surrounding orest.
 Day 4: Machu Picchu
Machu Picchu (Quechua: “Old Peak”) is a pre-Columbian Inca site located at 2,430m above sea level on a mountain ridge above the Urubamba Valley in Peru, about70 km northwest o Cusco. Oen reerred to as “Te Lost City o the Incas”, MachuPicchu is the most amiliar symbol o the Inca Empire. It was built around the year1450 and abandoned one-hundred years later, at the time o the Spanish conquesto the Inca Empire. Forgotten or centuries by all except or a ew locals, the site wasbrought to worldwide attention in 1911 by Hiram Bingham, an American historian.Since then Machu Picchu has become an important tourist attraction: declared aPeruvian Historical Sanctuary in 1981 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983.Aer an early breakast, we ascend the mountain to one o the new wonders o theWorld, Machu Picchu. We catch the early light on the ruins, beore the trains arriveor the day. Tis is a chance to experience the ruins with the ewest people possible.Aer a guided tour o the site, we have an optional hike up to the summit o HuyanaPicchu or a breathtaking aerial view and a picnic lunch. In the aernoon we’ll enjoy the local hot springs. An optional twilight walk through the orest leaves us ready ordinner at the hotel.
 Day 5: Machu Picchu
Tis morning we can chose rom excursions through the orest, a visit to town,indulge in our on-site spa services or a second trip to the Machu Picchu site. Tisis a chance to climb Huyana Picchu i you missed it yesterday, or to hike to the IncaBridge, the Sun Gate, or simply enjoy the energy o the site. An aernoon train takesus back to Cusco where we enjoy a leisurely arewell dinner on the main plaza.
 Day 6: Cusco to Lima
Aer breakast at the hotel, we will have the chance to explore the city o Cuscourther beore an aernoon transer to Lima. We catch our ights home rom JorgeChavez International Airport.
