Description

The year 2008 marked a decade during which
the National Committee has worked with the Preventive Defense Project to conduct annual Track II dialogues among senior leaders from the United States, Mainland China and Taiwan on cross-Strait issues, U.S.-China relations
and northeast Asian security.

The 2008 Strategic Security Issues Delegation to the People’s Republic of China and Taiwan, which ran from June 22 to July 1, 2008, took place during a time of unprecedented
opportunity in cross-Strait relations, and resulted in several productive developments.

The Preventive Defense Project is a collaborative effort of Stanford and Harvard Universities, and is cochaired by former Secretary of Defense Dr. William Perry of
Stanford and Dr. Ashton Carter of the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard. The delegation also included National Committee president Stephen Orlins, vice president Jan Berris and, among others, National Committee members Dr. Kurt Campbell, Dr. David M. Lampton, Dr. Evan Medeiros and Ambassador Joseph Prueher.
