AFI has compiled this ballot o 500 movies (50 per genre) to aid your selection process.Due to the extraordinary subjective nature o this process, you will no doubt fnd that AFI’sscholars and historians have been unable to include some o your avorite movies in thisballot, so AFI encourages you to utilize the spaces it has included or write-in votes. AFI asks jurors to consider the ollowing in their selection process:

Narrative ormat, typically over 60 minutes in length.

English-language flm with signifcant creative and/or production elements rom theUnited States. Additionally, only flms released beore January 1, 2008 will be considered.
GENRE

cRitical REcOGNitiON
Formal commendation in print, television and digital media.
MaJOR aWaRD WiNNER
Recognition rom competitive events including awards rom peer groups, critics,guilds and major flm estivals.
POPUlaRitY OVER tiME
Including success at the box ofce, television and cable airing, and DVD/VHSsales and rentals.
HiStORical SiGNiicaNcE
A flm’s mark on the history o the moving images through visionary narrativedevices, technical innovation, or other ground breaking achievements.
