WATKINS: I'm Shirley Watkins, the Under6 Secretary for Food, Nutrition and Consumer Services here at7 the Department of Agriculture. We're delighted to see all8 of you and look forward to an exciting morning.9 I know we're going to have a lively two or three10 hours. This is going to be a wonderful opportunity for us11 here at the Department of Agriculture, and we hope that you12 will have as much fun as we're going to have during this13 session and even afterwards.14 I know you're perhaps wondering why did the15 Department of Agriculture organize something called The16 Great Nutrition Debate? Well, I'll tell you. This morning17 about 2:30, my usual wake up time, I thought well, we could18 have said The Great Nutrition Conversation, but, anyway,19 it's going to be a conversation that is long overdue.20 The USDA Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion21 sponsored a seminar last year, and it was entitled Why We22 Eat What We Eat. That symposium had followed one we had23 earlier on childhood obesity prevention, and those seminars24 were held right here in this room.
