Idaho State at Washington Post-Game QuotesHusky StadiumSept. 21, 2013
Washington Head Coach Steve SarkisianOpening Statement:
It was great. Every guy who was eligible to play played in the game. For a football team, those moments arereally cool. Our guys are probably as excited about some of the walk-ons playing at the end of the game as theywere for Bishop Sankey’s first touchdown. They were fired up for Cyler, Deontae Cooper. So many cool things,so many guys got first things today. Cleveland Wallace with the pick and Marcus Farria with the sack and JoshBanks. A lot of that kind of stuff was good for our team and we took care of business the way I thought we werecapable of doing it. Honestly, the penalties were the glaring issue and they need to be rectified. And we’ll fix it.We’ve fixed a lot of things in this program over the last five years, and we’ll fix the penalties, believe me.
On improvements from last week:
I thought we spread the ball around really well. We had eight touchdowns and eight different guys scoring. That’s been a real point of emphasis for us. We wanted to incorporate the tight-end more, especially throwingthe ball down the field and we got to do that with Austin Seferian-Jenkins. We got to work with theintermediate passing game, we saw some different throws. When we were with our first unit we were able to bereally efficient in the red-zone. When our second and third teams got in there we sputtered a couple times, but Ithought for once the efficiency in the red-zone was good for us. Defensively, it was just a tremendous game. They were coming in with a bunch of yards, just like Illinois last week, and we shut them down and shut themout. It was a great game for the defense. So they kind of did everything right, which was good for us.
On Bishop Sankey’s lack of touches:
He was fine. He kind of landed on his shoulder, and it’s not serious, but as the game was going and the directionit was going I just didn’t feel the need to put him back in. He had 35 carries last week and four today, which isgood. I want him fresh and healthy for Pac-12 play.
On Cyler Miles’ playing time:
You never know. He’s a rolled ankle, knock on wood, away from playing football for us. So I wanted to givehim a chance to play and I think he was a little hesitant early, I think he missed a couple throws he is capable of making, but I thought it was good for him to get out and use his legs. We saw his explosiveness on the perimeter and he made a couple throws. It was really good to get him into the rhythm of playing football wherehe was comfortable. I wanted him to score, but I think we saw his versatility and what he brings to the tablewhen he plays and I think we saw a little glimpse of John Ross today too and why we think he’s so special. Itwas again, just getting him into the flow of the game.

WR Kevin SmithOn looking forward from today’s game
We just have to go into Pac-12 play with a sense of urgency. Pac-12 play is always tough so we have to comeout with the right approach.
On big offensive performance
With this type of offense you’ll get big yards like that. Our playmakers are making plays. We’ve got our running backs running down the field and our receivers catching the ball. That’s the way that this offense goes.
On state of up-tempo offense
It’s going great. You see a lot of success, 600 yards again today. We just need to keep it going.
OL Dexter CharlesOn what you can take away from the game
It was awesome. Once we got up by a good amount we were able to get the young guys in there and get themsome experience. They work so hard day in and day out, just like everybody else. It’s just so good to see themget in there and tear it up like they did.
On big offensive game
We’re fast and we’re moving. We’re all coming together and we’re all working, and it’s going good.
On up-tempo offense
I love it. The best feeling is when we don’t feel very gassed and we look across at the defensive line and they’rehuffing and puffing.
On getting ready for Arizona next week
It starts tomorrow. Get in the weight room, get worked out, watch film, and just get it going. We’re just going todo what we do every single week.
WR Jaydon MickensOn what you can take away from game
We just try to get better each and every week. Try to get better and stay focused and execute our tasks.
On younger players getting extended playing time
It’s good, because those guys want to be up-and-coming just like I was last year. It really gives a boost to your confidence in what you’re doing out there when you come back the next game or the next year.
On 3
rd
straight 600 yard game
That’s awesome, but we feel like we should be putting up 800 yards per game. We should go faster and weshould have more.

DB Markus PetersOn starting the season 3-0:
It’s cool, but we still have some stuff to fix. We are just trying to go out there and keep gaining and keep getting better.
On the shutout:
Coach Sark just taught us to go out there and play fast no matter who we were playing. We just wanted to goout and execute what we needed to do this week. We had some great plays by some of the younger guys thatcame out and played well. It just feels good
On the game plan:
Nothing changed. We prepare for each team the same no matter who we are playing, we gotta prepare the same.We play fast and practice physical and we just went out there and played husky football
DT Danny SheltonOn the 3-0 record:
I haven’t really got a second to think about it yet. We tend to just play each game like its one game. We playlike its 0:00 on the clock. To hear that its’ 3-0 that’s really exciting, Going into the Pac-12 that’s all I’mthinking about right now. I’m ready to play against this Pac-12 team and show them what we got
On game plan:
We always have something for each team because each team is different. We knew that this team was going to be an up-tempo team. So we practice like they are going to be Oregon or Arizona. We don’t lessen our  performances to our opponent. We play like it’s out last game. We play like it’s the biggest game of our life.
TE Josh PerkinsOn being 3-0:
It’s great. We come out prepared. We just have to embrace the process from here on out, preparation wise. Wehave to play how we play every game. Play how we play at practice. WE gotta come out and do what we gottado.
On moving on to Arizona:
We start tomorrow. We start as fast as we can. The faster the better. We have to go through the whole preparation process again. It starts tomorrow.
