Since the inception of Pakistan, basic telecom services were beingprovided by a monopolist, previously called as Telephone andTelegraph department (T&T). The department was being run by thegovernment and played multiple roles as regulator, policy maker, operator and service provider in the country. The T& T departmentwas later converted into a corporation.
