Happy birthday, America!nd a warm, Fourth of Julywelcome to all our friends, locals and visitors alike.Ellicottville’s “SummerFestival of the Arts” is
nallyhere – the Chamber’s warmweather answer to the ever-popular “Fall Festival.” Youcould just feel the excitementbuilding as the villageprepared itself this pastweek for three days of red, white and blue festivities andunbelievable sensory delights.Food, music, arts and crafts, parades,
reworks – you nameit, we got it! It all seems soappropriate to me, as we arecelebrating “life, liberty andthe pursuit of happiness” – thisis what our nation is all about, isn’t it?Although the majority of Americans (with a sprinklingof our northerly cousins!)associate July 4
th
with theindependence of the UnitedStates from Great Britain, for many it also representsquality time with loved ones, cookouts, summer sports andvacations. While the BuffaloPhilharmonic plays the
StarSpangled Banner
in thedistance, and the bratwurstssizzle on the grill, take amoment to appreciate allthings good in your life. I’vesaid it before and I’ll say itagain – there’s no better placeto be than right here, rightnow! So, dear readers, keep your
ngers crossed for greatweather, great food, and greatfun this weekend. HappyIndependence Day! Until nextweek …

The Massacoustics to Perform at the Gin Mill Monday, July 13
The Gin Mill in Ellicottvillewill be hosting a specialperformance come Monday,July 13. The Massacoustics willappear live at 7pm.The Massacoustics put anew and powerful twist on theterm acoustic duo. If you takethe energy of McCartney’smelodies, the con
dent vocalsof Crowded House and addedthe depth of Al Green, youwould get a sound similar tothe infectious groove called TheMassacoustics. The duo consists of AndyThompson on guitar andvocals and Matt Thompson onbass, percussion and vocals. The pair grew up just southof Boston, Massachusetts andstarted playing music early onin grade school. To any musicalconnoisseur, it’s impossibleto beat sibling harmonies. When you combine superbmusicianship and stellar vocalsto their unique songs, you endup with an undeniable brand of acoustic rock.Individually, Andy and Matthave logged thousands of hours as studio and touringmusicians. With extensivetravels throughout the UnitedStates, Canada and parts of Europe, they’ve shared the stagewith everyone from Bill Wymanand the Rhythm Kings (of TheRolling Stones) to Nickel Creek,Bad Finger and Willie Nelson. They have done studio sessionswith legendary cats like AlCooper And Steve Earle .After years of playing indifferent bands all over theworld, it seemed obvious thatthe two should pool their naturaltalents and focus exclusively onwriting and performing as a unit. The duo originally formed withthe sole purpose of getting someof their songs heard, but afterthe response of the crowd, itwas evident that they were on tosomething. From their
rst noteon stage, it was hard to believethat a sound that big was comingfrom just two people. Since2001, audiences everywherehave felt the excitement of their live performances, andevery return trip is met with anepidemic buzz.Come hear The Massacousticsthis coming Monday at the GinMill in Ellicottville!
