Advanced MobileCommunication - Webcourse
COURSE OUTLINE This course is intended for senior levelundergraduate and postgraduate students. In thebeginning some fundamentals of cellular system, wireless fading channels and multiple accessschemes are discussed.Advanced topics of wireless/mobile communicationsuch as equalization, receive/ transmit diversity,MIMO, space time signal processing etc are thenintroduced. Basics of multicarrier modulation andOFDM are also covered. The course also discussesdifferent existing cellular systems including 3G. Briefoutline of various topics covered in this course isgiven below.Introduction: Cellular concepts, wireless standards;signal propagation, channels: multipath conceptsand fading; capacity of wireless channels; antennas;multiple access schemes: FDMA, TDMA, CDMA andSDMA; modulation schemes, receiver structure:diversity receivers, RAKE receiver, equalization;transmit diversity; MIMO and space time signalprocessing;performance measures: outage, average snr, average symbol/bit error rate; system examples:GSM, EDGE, GPRS, IS-95, CDMA 2000 andWCDMA.
