list of parties to theEnvironmentalModification Convention
encompasses the stateswho have signed andratified or acceded to theinternational agreementprohibiting military use of  environmental modificationtechniques.On May 18, 1977, the Environmental ModificationConvention(ENMOD) wasopened for signature.NorthYemenbecame the firststate to deposit the treaty on 20 July 1977. The treatycame into forceand closed for signature onOctober 5, 1978. Since then, states that did not sign the treaty can now only accede to it. Theinstrument of ratification, accession, or succession is deposited with theSecretary-General of theUnited Nations As of 2012, 76 states have ratified or acceded to the treaty, most recentlyCameroonon 18 April 2011.A further 16 states have signed but not ratified the treaty.
