Dear Colleague,It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2009 Building Learning Communities Conference. It is anhonor to have you with us. My hope is that by the end of the week, you will have made new friends,built global partnerships and shared creative ideas for empowered teaching and learning. BLC rst started as a ‘jam session’ of ideas between friends and education colleagues. Today it has
grown into something truly special. As usual, we have a large international contingency including rep-resentatives from Australia, Bahrain, China, Croatia, El Salvador, France, Gambia, Hong Kong, Israel,Italy, Republic of Korea, Netherlands, Spain, United Kingdom, United States Minor Outlying Islands,and from across the US and Canada. We encourage you to talk to new colleagues at lunch, duringbreaks and at the ten-year anniversary party – take advantage of the talent and connections that sur-
round you. Truly immerse yourself in this amazing community. Friendships and networks made at BLCcan be steadfast and long lasting – just ask some of the folks that keeping returning year after year.Our team has worked hard to put together a world-class program. We have keynotes with Benjamin Zander, Stephen Heppell andDavid Weinberger to kick off each of our three days along with a special keynote on Thursday afternoon with David Kirkpatrick. Ad

working on in your communities. Grab a morning cup of coffee and go and share with your local and international colleagues.
We are thrilled with our new home at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel. This beautiful, historic hotel will allow much more eibility in our
program. It will provide you with more comfort during conference sessions and many more options in after-hour entertainment. We are
in the heart Boston where great food, culture and fun await. See all that Boston has to offer as you go out to eplore with a group offriends or when you join at the Hatch Shell for an evening concert with the Youth Orchestra of the Americas.
