Here are some 2009 articles that I've edited and for which I have written headlines for the Press-Enterprise in Riverside.

PAGE 1 (March 28)
Obama story: Chose best wire story, from the Boston Globe, and wrote head.
Stimulus story: Tight space makes for difficult headline writing. This one worked well.
PAGE 2 (JULY 3)
IOUs story: While editing this metro story, noticed it did not answer a fundamental question: Why had the banks implemented such a tight deadline for redemption of IOUs. Found a New York Times story that included the information and added a few graphs to our story.

Advocates story: Lots of points made in this story, but this headline worked best.
Gap story: I am editing the daily California budget stories. These four words give a good picture of the situation.

Drug war story: To create this article, I combined graphs from these wire services: New York Times, McClatchy Newspapers, Houston Chronicle, the Dallas Morning News, Associated Press and the Chicago Tribune. For example, The lead is from the Chronicle, the second graph is from AP, and the third and fourth are from NYT.

Gunman story: Mine as well. There's been a string of particularly heinous mass killings since the recession really took root.
