2 years Earlier, Largoom
“This is the relaxation room. Everyone’s been expecting you so there’reall in there,” Matt explained pointing to a small, open doorway into alarge open space with lots of people all sitting on the hard ground, chatting animatedly to each other. Gordon shook his head disbelievingly.“What do you mean, everyone’s been expecting me? I had no way of expecting myself to end up on this planet, let along someone elseexpecting me to turn up,” Gordon exclaimed, sounding frustrated. Mattnodded as though he understood Gordon’s frustration.“We knew you’d arrived. It was just a matter of finding you and Lennawent out today because we’d located you. She never fails at her job sowe knew you’d be back sometime around now,” Matt explained andGordon looked over at Lenna who had blushed as he said this. Gordoncould sense her about to say something to shift the spotlight off herself.“No thanks to
him
though.” She pointed to Gordon. “If there’d beenanyone else out there, we would have been back without almost beingeaten alive by the Rippers.”“Rippers? Is that what you call them?” Gordon asked, wanting to pushaway the spotlight from himself as well.“Yeah. They rip their pray and we didn’t exactly have anything else toname them so that was the simplest thing we could think of.”“Hardly would have eaten us alive then,” Gordon muttered as hefollowed the other two into the ‘
relaxation room
’.“Everyone!” Matt called out and everyone looked up, quietening down.“This is...”“Heartly,” Lenna finished for Matt.“Actually, it’s Gordon,” Gordon corrected her. One thing that wasnoticeable about all the people in the room was that they were allhuman. There was a silence across the room and Gordon asked, “You allfrom Earth then?” Surprisingly, most of the group shook their heads.

One girl from the far corner of the room said, “Most of our parents orgrandparents were but they somehow travelled to other areas where wewere then born. We’ve never actually set foot on Earth.”Gordon frowned, “But you’re human...” They nodded.“We were born from humans so that makes us human too but we’venever been on Earth,” another boy explained. Gordon nodded andsighed, finding a position to kneel down on the ground.“What’s your story, then?” Matt questioned as he and Lenna squatteddown beside him. Gordon was hesitant about answering with so manyeyes on him but he managed to convince himself that he had wanted totell someone what he had experienced for so long and now he finally hadthe chance to describe everything. He took a deep breath and then began. “I come from just outside the bigcity of London on my planet Earth. My schools about a ten minute walkfrom my house and I have loads of friends nearby me so I was having agreat time where I was. My dad worked in the media industry and mymum just worked at home. With my dad taking in plenty of money eachmonth from his job, I got loads of things I wanted and there wasn’t muchelse I really needed. I’m 15 years...” Gordon paused and thought for amoment. “...15 Earth Years Old so I went out quite often and sometimes Istayed at home on my own while my parents went out.”Gordon thought again, trying to choose his words carefully. “But, onenight, while I was at home...”“You got a letter?” Matt cut in. Gordon frowned, wondering how heknew.“Yeah...I was at home without my parents when a letter came throughthe door at about 8 in the evening. It was addressed to me so naturally, Iopened it, and all it read was...‘We’re coming to get you. Watchyourself.’”Gordon was unsure if he was going to remember the right wording butfound that everyone else was saying the two sentences with him asthough they had seen them before. Matt saw his expression and decidedto explain.
