This is a review of Very Poythress' book "Understanding Dispensationalists" and I have to say it was a pleasure to read, if for no other reason than his completely charitable attitude and demeanor toward Dispensationalists.
Though there are aspects of his book I disagree (including the alleged problems with Hebrews 12:22-24 and 1 Corinthians 15:50-53), overall, the sense he brings to the fore is one of a willingness to DIALOGUE, as opposed to harangue and castigate.
I wish more theologians opposed to Dispesnationalism would take a cue from this book. I find myself gritten my teeth all too often as I read other books which tend to arrogantly portray Dispensationalism as anything from a cult, to heresy, to being non-Christian.
I think Poythress really did a great service with the publication of this book. He also obviously did plenty of research. Still, he makes a number of (in my opinion) errors that are easily made when not viewing Scripture from their Jewish point of origin. We Gentiles have been guilty of removing any Jewishness from the Bible since before the 3rd century and our lack of understanding shows.
This is a great book, one that I would highly recommend to ALL theologians.
