Summary:
The story of this book is about the little prince who came from a small planet whichis known to be as Asteroid B-612 by the pilot. He left his planet in order to explore newfriend/s other than his flower whom he admire and love so much but angry withafterwards. He had been to several planets before he landed on earth. He had met a king whorules in a planet where no one lives other than him, a conceited man that can hearpraises only, an odd tippler that drink liquor for a queer reason that he was ashamed of drinking liquor, a businessman who is so busy owning and counting the stars, alamplighter who is so loyal to his work, and a geographer that doesn’t have even a littleknowledge about his own planet where he lives. Except for the lamplighter whom thelittle prince admires because of his loyalty to his work, the little chap had met manygrown-ups who seem to be odd that only think of themselves, so in love with figures, andbusy with their own matter of consequences. When he landed on earth, he finds it hard to look for a man to become his friend. He finds our world so big that is different from his world where everything is so small. Hehad met a snake, a desert flower, roses, a fox, a railway switchman, and a merchantbefore he had met the pilot, whom he became one of his true friends. The fox, whotaught him many things about life and friendship, became his friend also; only that hehad to leave that animal to search for a man to share what he had learned. Finally, the little prince had met a grown-up different from other grown-ups he met.A man that also looks for a true friend that will understand what he feels inside aboutother grown-ups. A man that was discouraged before by the grown-up when he was onlya child and a man that soon will become one of the odd grown-ups; the pilot. Thanks tothe little prince, the pilot had reflects on his doings and had understand better themeaning of life that’s why he doesn’t become like those grown-ups who only think of themselves. The pilot had accidentally crushed on Sahara desert when he met the little prince. They became very good friends that the pilot had learned many things to his new littlebut true friend. He was able to treasure that child and live the lessons he had learned. On the time of the little prince’s departure, saying goodbye had been the hardestpart between the two. That moment was memorable to the pilot that once in his life, hehad a friend whom he loved and where he finds what he was truly looking for his entirelife. As the little prince left our world, the pilot was still waiting for him and as he waits,he never forget what did his little friend had taught to him.
Insights:
“... There is no shop anywhere, where one can buy friendship,” a line from the fox,one of the little prince’s friend when he landed here on earth. A line that strikes my heartso much. That fox is absolutely right. Even we go to the biggest mall in the world, wecannot and we wouldn’t be able to find a shop or a store where we can buy one of themost valuable things we can have, true friends. In this book written by Antoine De Saint-Exupery, a friendship was establishedbetween the little prince and the pilot. A different kind of friendship story wherein theone who is the grown-up was the one who was able to learn from a little child. Lessonsthat one should not forget. Lessons that could change an odd grown-up who loves figureinto a grown-up that knew how to value friendship and understand life better.Even this book have a simple story with illustrations inside, I find this book sointeresting because of the moral lessons it taught. Moral lessons that we had to apply inthis course what we call life. Moral lessons that seem to be forgotten by most of peopletoday most especially the grown-ups.Grown-ups, obviously, are those people that are neither children anymore norteenagers. They are the adult people of the society who are busy of their matter of consequences. As they struggle life each day, it seems that some of them, little by littlehad forgotten more important things than loving figures, numbers or money in short. Some of them also forgot to understand life and what became important to some of them are their own selves only. The pilot in the story symbolizes the grown-ups while the little prince symbolizessimple people that understand life different from the odd grown-ups. Through the littleprince’s deep words and strange experiences, he was able to change the life of the pilot.
