Bible Study About Worship(organized and formatted by Bill Stevenson)
Introduction:When I received this assignment two months ago, I wondered why since I did not haveanything to do with the worship teams in the church I currently attend. But worshipactually should result after being filled with the Holy Spirit, is important in sanctification, and is important in understanding Revelation. Also, my best days have been when aworship song or two just keep repeating in my soul for a good period of time. Divine peace and joy usually have been given to me during those times too. But what prevents us from having such times? Maybe this study will help you answer that question. Also what idols do many Christians worship currently instead of just God? What activities or thinking prevents you from thinking about, thanking, and communing with God?The following is from “Noah Webster’s 1828 Dictionary”:
WORSHIP, n. [See Worth.]1. Excellence of character; dignity; worth; worthiness. In this sense, the word is nearly or quite obsolete; but hence,2. A title of honor, used in addresses to certain magistrates and other of respectable character. My father desires your worships company.3. A term of ironical respect.4. Chiefly and eminently, the act of paying divine honors to the Supreme Being; or the reverence andhomage paid to him in religious exercises, consisting in adoration, confession, prayer, thanksgiving andthe like. The worship of God is an eminent part of religion.Prayer is a chief part of religious worship.5. The homage paid to idols or false gods by pagans; as the worship or Isis.6. Honor; respect; civil deference. Then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee. Luke 14.7. Idolatry of lovers; obsequious or submissive respect.WORSHIP, v.t.1. To adore; to pay divine honors to; to reverence with supreme respect and veneration.Thou shalt worship no other God. Exodus 34.2. To respect; to honor; to treat with civil reverence. Nor worshiped with a waxen epitaph.3. To honor with extravagant love and extreme submission; as a lover. With bended knees I daily worship her.WORSHIP, v.i.1. To perform acts of adoration.2. To perform religious service. Our fathers worshiped in this mountain. John 4.
Why does God deserve our worship or why should we worship Him as often as possible? Jesus Christ said that the greatest commandment is “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind (intellect).” (Matthew 22:36) How do the following two passages relate to each other?
Hebrews 13:8-16“Jesus Christ (the Messiah) is [always] the same, yesterday, today, [yes] and forever (to the ages).

Do not be carried about by different {and} varied and alien teachings;for it is good for the heart to be established {and} ennobled {and} strengthened by means of grace (God's favor and spiritual blessing)and not [to be devoted to] foods [rules of diet and ritualistic meals],which bring no [spiritual] benefit {or} profit to those who observe them.We have an altar from which those who serve {and}
worship
in the tabernacle have no right to eat.For when the blood of animals is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest as a sacrifice for sin,the victims' bodies are burned outside the limits of the camp. Therefore Jesus also suffered {and} died outside the [city's] gatein order that He might purify {and} consecrate the peoplethrough [the shedding of] His own blood {and} set them apart as holy [for God].Let us then go forth [from all that would prevent us] to Him outside the camp [at Calvary],bearing the contempt {and} abuse {and} shame with Him.For here we have no permanent city, but we are looking for the one which is to come.Through Him, therefore, let us constantly {and} at
all

times

offer up to God

a sacrifice of

praise
,which is
the fruit of lips that thankfully acknowledge {and} confess {and} glorify His name
.Do not forget {or} neglect to do kindness {and} good,to be generous {and} distribute {and} contribute to the needy, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.”Romans 12:1-3“I appeal to you therefore, brethren, {and} beg of you in view of [all] the mercies of God,to make a decisive dedication of your bodies [presenting all your members and faculties]as a living sacrifice, holy (devoted, consecrated) and well pleasing to God,which is your reasonable (rational, intelligent) service {and} spiritual
worship
.Do not be conformed to this world (this age),[fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind[by its new ideals and its new attitude],so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God,{even} the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you].For by the grace (unmerited favor of God) given to meI warn everyone among younot to estimate {and} think of himself more highly than he ought[not to have an exaggerated opinion of his own importance], but to rate his ability with sober judgment, each according to the degree of faith apportioned by God to him.”

Do you worship Abba Father this way?
1 Chronicles 16:8-13, & 23-29[David said to the Israelites]“Oh give thanks to the LORD,call on His name;make known His doings among the peoples!Sing to Him, sing praises to Him.Meditate on {and} talk of all His wondrous works {and} devoutly praise them!Glory in His holy name; let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the LORD!Seek the LORD and His strength;yearn for {and} seek His face {and} to be in His presence continually![Earnestly] remember the marvelous deeds which He has done,His miracles, and the judgments He uttered [as in Egypt],oh you offspring of [Abraham and] of Israel His servants, you children of Jacob,

His chosen ones!….Sing to the LORD, all the Earth; show forth from day to day His salvation.Declare His glory among the nations, His marvelous works among all peoples. For great is the LORD and greatly to be praised; He also is to be [reverently] feared above all so-called gods. For all the gods of the people are [lifeless] idols, but the LORD made the heavens.Honor and majesty are [found] in His presence;strength and joy are [found] in His sanctuary.Give to the LORD, you families of the peoples, give to the LORD glory and strength.Give to the LORD the glory due His name.Bring an offering and come before Him;Oh,
worship
the LORD in the beauty of holiness {and} in holy array.”Acts 10:34-35“And Peter opened his mouth and said:‘Most certainly {and} thoroughly I now perceive {and} understandthat God shows no partiality {and} is no respecter of persons,But in every nation, whoever venerates [respects]{and} has a reverential fear for God,treating Him with
worshipful
obedienceand living uprightly,is acceptable to Him {and} sure of being received and welcomed [by Him].’”
Note:For the rest of this collection of Scripture, which verses and passages were just for certain individualsor just for the Israelites, and which are for the New Covenant Christians? For better understanding, the Bible verses were taken from the Lockman Foundation’s Amplified Bible software. I did not do a search on the verses with “praise” and “praising”; that would probably result in another 40 pages.
*** shouldn’t include worship of other gods
1 Corinthians 10:5-7“Nevertheless, God was not pleased with the great majority of them (the Israelites),for they were overthrown {and} strewn down along [the ground] in the wilderness. Now these things are examples (warnings and admonitions) for usnot to desire {or} crave {or} covet {or} lust after evil {and} carnal things as they did.Do not be
worshipers
of false gods as some of them were,as it is written, ‘The people sat down to eat and drink [the sacrifices offered to the golden calf at Horeb]and rose to sport (to dance and give way to jesting and hilarity).”Psalm 106:19-23“They made a calf in Horeb and
worshiped
a molten image. Thus they exchanged Him Who was their Glory for the image of an ox that eats grassThey forgot God their Savior, Who had donesuch great things in Egypt, wonders {and} miracles in the land of Ham,dreadful {and} awesome things at the Red Sea.Therefore He said He would destroy them.[And He would have done so] had not Moses, His chosen one, stepped into the breach before Him to turn away His threatening wrath.”
