1.Lexington’s July Fourth festivities began with theJuly third concert at Gratz Park / TransylvaniaUniversity, progressed to the Bluegrass 10,000 raceat 7:30 a.m., July fourth, just missing the rain for each main event up to the parade, but not thefireworks.2.Beauty queens, churches, fire department,merchants, neighborhood associations, others, police, and political floats strode down MidlandAvenue to Main Street for the 32d annual July 4 parade.3.The city council budgeted $22,500 for the 2009festivities.4.The actual $29, 519 cost of the 2008 July 4festivities was $7,019 over budget — 32% more.5.Council has budgeted $22,500 again for 2010.
