“This is what happens when God gets on the move.”

O
n the move…
I
don’t love moving. I lived in the same
house from the day I was born until Iwent to college, and did not have toexperience a
real
move until I relocatedto Florida to teach. During my threeyears in Florida, I moved 5 times (7 ifyou include the moves from teachingone grade-
level to another)…
if you dothe math, I averaged a move just aboutevery 7 months. In June 2008, I closed
the “excessive moving” chapter of my
life and moved home to Indianapolis. As I drove north on 65, I thought
a lot
. Ithought about the journey I had been onover the past three years, and the journey I would step into. As I drove, Irealized I had come to a point where Icould say that moving is not so bad.
Don’t get me wrong. Moving is still noton my “Top 10
Favorite
Activities” list,
but I have come to learn some things inthe midst of the change and transition. Ihave learned, among other things, that
it’
s very hard to do without havinggood friends to help. I also came torealize that life is constantly changing.People come and go, things change, butI serve a God who is constant, everlasting, and unchanging. He is thesame yesterday, today, and forever.(Hebrews 13:8)As I anticipate moving to Uganda in June 2010, I know these same things aretrue. First, I
cannot
do it alone. I needyour prayers and support as I go. Yourpart in this journey is crucial. The roadahead may be dark and winding. It mayhave bumps and flat tires. But, the roadwill also be full of life and joy, hope andvictory. Will you join me as we travelthis road together? I can promise it willbe an adventure! Finally, as I prepare toleave, I know that in the midst of theunknowns, when there are far morequestions than answers, I have a Godwho is still on the throne. He is still inthe business of making paths straight(Proverbs 3:6) and proclaiming light inthe dark (Matthew 4:16). It is my prayerthat in your situation, whatever it maybe, that you are seeing Him as
your
path-maker and light-bringer.
