Preface
This is the first time I have released this novel under acreative commons license. Since 1991, when I first wrote thisnovel, I have: submitted the manuscript to traditionalpublishers, released it as shareware, posted some, and all, of the text to various websites and news groups, self published via POD and ebook, and finally posted it on my blog alongsideadsense adverts. However, as the internet marketers wouldsay, my efforts to monetize my content have met with limitedsuccess. With "successes" such as spending $300 inadvertising in order to sell 8 POD books and earning $3 amonth in advertising revenue from my blog, I can only hopethat I am a better writer than I am businessman.I cannot say that this is the best novel ever written, I cannottell you that it will change your life, or start a revolution. Various people, through email and website comments, havetold me that they have enjoyed this work and that it hasconnected with them on a meaningful level. If I had not freely shared my work on the Internet the connections betweenthose people and my work would not have been made. And soit is with the intent of connecting my work with even morepeople, so that they might enjoy reading it, and maybediscover something about themselves, other people and the world we all share, that I release this novel under a creativecommons license. As a writer I have to realize that my work existsindependently to myself. My novel only really exists when it isread. Otherwise it is just dead words printed on dead trees(and not even that for the electronic copies). It is only when areader reads my words that they come alive and as a livingthing my novel deserves to live its own life. And so it is in thespirit of allowing my work to stand on its own, to allow it togrow and develop in its own way that I release it under a3
