Edgar Allan Poe was an American poet,short story writer, playwright, editor, critic,essayist and one of the leaders of the Americ-an Romantic Movement. Best known for histales of the macabre and mystery, Poe was oneof the early American practitioners of theshort story and a progenitor of detective fic-tion and crime fiction. He is also credited withcontributing to the emergent science fictiongenre.Poe died at the age of 40.
