From the Desk of the Executive Director
Hi! The painters have done a great jobdecorating our living room, entrance foyer, anddining room. Come in to enjoy it and admire thecolonial-style new chandelier in the dining room. This old house of ours needs a good, old large rugfor the living room. Hopefully, someone had one todonate to us. It takes all kinds of help to maintain amuseum property as beautiful as the one you have.Crowds will arrive again when our new exhibitarrives in early fall. It is called “The Ever ChangingRidge (ADA)” We want all of you to come to thegrand opening celebration. We’ll let you know thedate.
Hopefully, some help will arrive soon toclean out the weeds that invaded the garden outfront by our sign. HELP – it will take fivepeople about two hours each. Call 225-7221 if you can rescue our sign area! While I am sure that our members have heardof the humble beginnings of the GreeceHistorical Society, I chose to tell the story inthe August 2, 2007, issue of the Greece Post onPage 9A. If you did not get the paper, we cansend a copy of the article to you or you can readit online at www.MPNNow.com.The reason for the article telling of ourownership of the buildings on land leased fromthe Town of Greece came about when peoplerefer to it as Town property and refer to theirtax dollars paying for our operation. That is notcorrect. As with all not-for-profit organizations, our income is mainly derived from membershipdues, gift shop sales, grants, and fund raising.Donations are most welcome. But if weplanned on donations at the Museum door, wecould not even pay for one month of electricityand gas. Thanks to all of you for beingmembers and to all of our volunteers who work hard to make us a big success.

Please read the column in the “
GreecePost
” called the “Historical Notebook.” Itappears
monthly and it gives me a space to talk about history.

Call 225-7221 if you would like to help oradvise us.

MUSEUM HAPPENINGSTHE EVER CHANGING RIDGE— KNOWN AS ‘ADA’
The next exhibit at the Museum planned forearly fall is called “The Ever Changing Ridge(ADA)” A thriving little community waslocated where Long Pond Road crossed RidgeRoad around 1900. This was called Adabecause the local postmaster came from Ada,Michigan, and named it after his former place. After rural free delivery was instituted, thename fell into disuse. Today, the Greece TownMall is on the site of the old post office. Our exhibit will include pictures and artifactsfrom Buckman’s, Former Greece Town Hall,Greece Grange, Greece Baptist Church, St.John’s Catholic Church, and other relatedhomes and businesses up to the present time. Abusiness or prominent family of that era will befeatured in upcoming issues of the
Corinthian
.
The “Dewey – Stone and Beyond” exhibit willbe up until “ADA” is ready. Please come to visitthe Museum to see what it’s all about. Even thoughit has been decided to keep this exhibit open untilearly fall, please come to see it early. You maywish to come a second time.
