Devotees throng to Sai Baba temples on 'Gurupurnima' DayVijayawada,
Jul 7 : Hundreds of devotees had darshan of Shirdi Sai Baba in Krishna District on the auspicious 'Gurupurnima'day today.Since dawn, queues were seen in front of the Sai Baba temples in the city as devotees strongly believed that this day is veryauspicious for praying.In some temples it took two hours for devotees for offering prayers.Special pujas, 'abishekams' and recital of poems praising Sai Baba and bhajans were conducted in many temples. July 7 (BRS&RK)- Devotees in large numbers offered worship at various temples and shrines including Mutts andAshrams in city today marking Guru Poornima, the day sacred to the memory of great sage Vyasa.The celebration is also descri-bed as an occasion to express respect and gratitude to teachers.The day marked the 71st year of celebrations at Sri Prasanna Sai Mandira on Thyagaraja Road in K.R. Mohalla, where devoteesstarted arriving in large numbers to take part in the rituals that began at 7 am.They were seen worshipping Sri Sai Baba of Shirdi and making offerings in cash and kind.The five-day celebrations began with a grand procession of Sri Sai Baba in the locality.Mahaganapathi puja and Mahabhisheka which began 8 am at the shrine was followed by mass feeding at 12 noon. Nandi Raoand party, Zee TV and AIR artistes will present a programme of devotional songs at 7.15 pm.A richly decorated mantap has been erected in front of the temple and the interior of the temple is decked with buntings andcolourful flowers.Audio CDs and cassettes with Sri Sai bhajans and books on the Saint are for sale at the temple premises. More than 3,000devotees offered worship at the shrine this morning. July 7 (ANI): Hundreds of devotees converged on the banks of River Ganges in Allahabadto take a dip at Sangam and offer prayers on the occasion of ‘Guru Purnima’. “After bathing in the river, we will offer prayers to our guru. Taking a dip at Sangam on this day holds great significance,” saidJagannath Singh, a devotee.The day of full moon, Purnima, in the month of Ashadh of the Hindu calendar is traditionally celebrated as Guru Purnima. Onthis day, devotees offer worship to their guru.While the entire country celebrates Guru Purnima on the full moon day, the festivities related to this occasion commencedearlier at Shirdi in Maharashtra.Devotees from across the country and even abroad thronged the shrine of Sai Baba, the revered saint and sought his blessingson the auspicious occasion..
