Description

“To be hopeful in bad times is not just foolishly romantic. It is based on the fact that human history is a history not only of cruelty, but also of compassion, sacrifice, courage, kindness.

“What we choose to emphasize in this complex history will determine our lives. If we see only the worst, it destroys our capacity to do something. If we remember those times and places—and there are so many—where people have behaved magnificently, this gives us the energy to act, and at least the possibility of sending this spinning top of a world in a different direction.

Any so-called historian who approaches his or her subject with existing prejudices and biases, such as the Marxist writer of "A People's History..." admits to doing, has lost his argument with objectivity.

I should not be too quick to read this so-called history, unless you are among those who hate the United States and the freedom it offers and has offered to countless millions who have come to its shores.

Dear FREE2009ALL, This book deserves to be read because in reality within a story, there are different sides to explore. I respect your comment. One question. Did you really read a book with the title "A People's History.."? Then show me evidence in support of your claim.

A serious student of history, leave alone a teacher of history, should stay away from any tome the title of which begins "A People's History..." in the vast majority of instances, there exists a dearth of learning to be found in such books. Rather, you will find yourself embrangled in an admixture of populist sentimentality and progressive propaganda couched in ersatz (phony-bologna, plastic-banana, good-time rock-and-roller) historiography. Should one be impressed that a professor wrote it? Unless one wants to be a credulous, ignorant, absurd, unintelligent, clumsy dullard in want of a single independent gray cell, then no

This work is under the Zinn Education Project. I found it amazingly provocative. I, therefore, think to disseminate it to the widest audience as possible to provide an alternative way of thinking about history, especially that of America. Thank you professor Zinn and the author of this book for inspiring me toward working to make a better world for all, beginning with the decolonization of history. Please read it.
