This Toolkit is an update of an earlierresource. It draws on an earlier editionproduced by the Family Violence Unit ofthe Social Policy Agency and the CrimePrevention Unit, and the work of theTaskforce for Action on Violence WithinFamilies. It is published by the Family andCommunity Services of the Ministry of SocialDevelopment to establish a process forengaging communities, key sectors and arange of diverse groups:• in promoting intolerance to violence infamilies/whanau and• raising awareness and understanding ofthe nature, causes and effects of variousforms and types of violence in families/whanau (Te Rito – New Zealand Family Violence Prevention Strategy Action Area 13: Public education/awareness).The Toolkit is an important part of theTaskforce’s Campaign for Action on Family Violence, a four year campaign aimed atchanging the way New Zealanders think andact about family violence. The campaign isled by the Ministry of Social Developmentand the Families Commission. Family andCommunity Services acknowledges the manypeople around the country who contributedideas for the original resource and for thisupdated edition, the groups who trialled thedraft Toolkit in communities and those peoplewho offered valuable feedback forthis edition.The Toolkit has been produced with thesupport of ACC.
