From: Ange Lobue, MD, MPH, BSPharm,trinidadca@gmail.com, CA, 95519Dear Senator Kerry,As a physician who has practiced for 45 years and helped to design and implement theoriginal Health Maintenance Organization legislation only to watch the co-option by theinsurance industry and the outrageous abuse of the sick and disabled American citizen, Iwas very disappointed to read that you have proposed a "trigger to bring in the publicoption" ONLY IF the insurance companies fail to control costs. You and I both know that the only thing keeping the insurance industry on the table is theobscene amount of money it continues to use to control the Congress. We both know thatthe only real reform will come when we TAKE THE FOR-PROFIT INSURANCEINDUSTRY OUT OF THE AMERICAN HEALTH CARE EQUATION!HEALTH, NOT INSURANCE, IS THE NEW AMERICAN CIVIL RIGHT!Home insurance, automobile insurance, liability insurance and other disguised "hedge-funds," for that is what insurance is, for that matter, may be options or privileges, but theyshould not be American Rights. Although our founders had some argument over thesubstitution of the phrase "the pursuit of happiness," for the phrase "the pursuit of  property" in our Constitution, neither of those pursuits can be properly exercised without"the right to life, liberty AND HEALTH!"The fact that even a small group of Democrats cannot be mustered, who would promiseto return the money they have received from Big Insura and Big Pharma and stand up andexpose the game, is clear enough evidence to me that the dollar amount is too great towalk away from and the method of corruption too egregious and risky for publicexposure. After seeing how many millions of Americans have been willing to contribute to the pro-

single-payer groups and to other honorable cause campaigns, can you not imagine thatmany of us would be willing to contribute to the restitution of your debts to Big Insuraand Big Pharma, just to get you and the rest of Congress free of their stifling grips?Recent neuroscience research has shown that "mirror neurons" are responsible for compassion and empathy in humans.I suspect that those of you in Congress who have any mirror neurons at all must be torn between the greed and the shame that has frozen our American Congress for at least adecade. And it is in that ambivalent state that your colleagues continue to try to convinceus that there are no hidden agendas, no corrupt influences controlling them on this andother issues. Can you not see that most Americans know that something is amiss, something is in-congruent between what is expressed and what is known about the insurance industry byeach of you? Most Americans may be too innocent to understand that those in Congress in whom theyhave placed their trust could be caught up in an immoral system from which the only wayout is retirement from service or embarrassing exposure of improper relationships withBig Insura, Big Pharma and/or other Big Business.Well, there are some of us who have seen the system up close, recoiled from it indisillusionment, and in a last effort to help America recover from its shamefuldegeneration, decided to help expose it.I have believed all my life that, when it comes to health care, America should be ashamedof its sad position among the developed nations of the world. And I have workedthroughout my career to change that damning statistic.Today, it appears that we have one last chance to really reform health care in America andI have committed to participate, with vigor and passion, in the "American Civil HealthRights Movement of the 21st Century" until it bears fruit or until my own death.Because you and your colleagues have not been able to hear and understand us clearly sofar, I am calling on all Americans who truly care, to return to the streets in massive civildisobedience and passive resistance until the Congress gets it that "We are mad as hell, and will not take it any longer!"What will be the evidence that you hear us?The removal of the profit-driven insurance industry from American Health Care, now!Can you hear us, now?Sincerely,
of 00
