JULY & AUGUST; Summer Vacation AGHO Farming Carrsons AHFW FCGT Staff Children
Summer 2013
Summer comes every year, and in Cambodia for CCFs NGO its a time of growth. It is time to plan, to start projects weve been waiting to do and it also a time to play. The children are out of school, teams are coming and there tends to be enough funds to make the extra tasks possible. For me summer is a great high as I get to spend lots of time with the children. I get to know some children better and lately it has become a time to send children off into adult hood. As summer comes to an end it also brings a sadness; teams going home kids going back to school and slightly fewer things to do. The hallways are quite. I cant pop out of the office and play with the kids anytime I want. I also find myself every year not knowing what to do. Its crazy, crazy busy from June to October and then Blam! seemingly nothing to do. The summer is nearing an end and so are the projects weve started.

Farming
In July Weve increased our cricket production and consumed the last of our rabbits. Weve reduce our chickens stock while the market is down. We still raise enough to eat but we arent laboring over sales right now. Turns out though crickets make good money. We have a 15 meter by 10 meter pen were we used to raise pigs at. We use to have 12 pig until market prices dropped. 1000 chickens fit in the same space and make more money than the pigs Turns out after market dropped on chickens that crickets in the same amount of space will make more money than the chickens or the pigs. Who would have guessed.
We got a cow but she doesnt have a name yet. Shes a bit skinny like all other cows in Cambodia but well see what we can do for her. Shots and lots of grass to start.

3 rd Our school opened this year September 2nd. Weve included grades 7, 8 & 9. Weve also doubled up our Pre-K & Kindergarten classes. Weve enrolled more than 350 children with many more wanting to enroll but weve turned down a lot because we are out of room in grades P-7. We do have a number of children wanting into Junior high but the couldnt pass the tests mostly because they cant read. There were some pretty upset parents when they found out their child couldnt read. We did offer the extra reading classes this year because we dont have the extra staff like last year, but well see. We received an amazing student this week who is blind. She can see out of one eye but she can only read the pages when her nose touches the book. Shes a cheerfully determined 7th grader who was top of her class last year. She
4th wants to learn English and computer very badly. Im egger to help her learn. Were also looking to glasses and possibly surgery for her. Weve employed 14 teachers this year and have 6 volunteers; my wife and I included. We lack English teachers though hint, hint. Our office lady starts next Monday. Yeah!!

We have food shops on the school property now that serves breakfast and lunch to those who need it. We are working on the library and it should be open this month along with having the 5th grade rebuilt. Once thats complete well have a teacher lounge and get our sanctuary back which is where the 4th grade is at for the month. There are some way well be helping the families of the school out this year. Weve already built two houses for two of the families and we have another planned. We are working out buying a water filter for each family that doesnt have one. Many of the people receiving wells are families with children attend the school. We are looking into buying an ID card printer, a cheep one. If anyone has any leads on that. Were planning to buy a large office copier and produce our own education material saving us all a bit of money.
We are hoping in the not to distant future to have a nurse at the school. All that plus a good education.
