Our pupils are therefore set a wide variety of home learning tasks including: writing, numeracy problems, science, art projects and much more! These are set weekly and the amount set is appropriate to the childs ability. Older children are often asked to complete project work which applies the skills learnt in class.
We expect that children aim to read every evening and that children regularly practise their phonic sounds with an adult. Kingsley supports this by offering a bank of resources that can be taken home.
Behaviour at Kingsley At Kingsley Primary, we see good pupil behaviour as an essential part of our childrens learning and general wellbeing. We promote five aspects in particular: - Follow an adults request first time. - Be polite and honest at all times. - Be gentle and keep hands/feet to yourself. - Look after everyones property. - Work hard and do your best! As a staff we work hard to reinforce good behaviour through praise and rewards. Occasionally, teachers may use an appropriate sanction to discipline pupils if the need arises. Bullying is never tolerated.
At Kingsley, we believe in making learning experience memorable for our children. Thats why we plan an outstanding range of trips and visitors for our children! These trips range from visits to the zoo for Reception to excursions to London for our older children.
Sometimes we organise special visitors for all of our children. Below Nick Gillingham MBE talks to Kingsleys children about being an Olympic athlete and reaching your goals.
Lunchtime runs from 12-1pm and hot dinners are available to order. All of the children have a morning playtime with Key Stage One having an extra break during the afternoon. Structured activities organised by our older children provide happy playtime experiences.
Attendance At Kingsley we recognise that outstanding levels of attendance are essential to a childs learning and social development. We expect attendance to be 95% at the very least and children that fall below this figure are rigorously monitored by the school.
Further information regarding our attendance policies can be found on our website (www.kingsleyprimary.net).
Early Years at Kingsley At Kingsley, we recognise that Reception is one of the most important years in a childs school life. We are passionate about
enabling our children to achieve their goals through purposeful play and a mix of adult and child initiated learning. The children follow the Letters and Sounds phonics programme and have daily phonics sessions.
We plan and observe the children to support their development in seven key areas of learning: - communication and language - physical development - personal, social and emotional development - literacy - mathematics - understanding the world - expressive arts and design Parents are encouraged to share their childs achievements from home to celebrate in class on our well done boards.
The Curriculum Our children follow the National Curriculum and many of the recommended programmes of study. Kingsley staff work very hard to ensure that our children have the best chance possible of succeeding in the basics: - a firm grasp of calculation strategies. We spend the first four weeks of every term on these skills. - Strong reading skills. All of our children benefit from reading sessions with a member of staff at least once a week. - Secure spelling. Regular phonics classes, based on the Letters and Sounds programme, provide pupils with an excellent grounding for developing their spelling skills.
Around these skills we tailor the curriculum to meet the interests of the children. We use local resources and hot topics from the media to plan lessons that motivate our children to learn.
Key Stage One In Key Stage One we extend upon the foundations laid down by Reception to build upon all of their core skills. Regular phonics lessons and drama activities extend Literacy skills whilst problem solving is increasingly integrated into their Numeracy activities.
Year 1 sort the materials that they have found outside. Key Stage Two
As our children grow older we encourage them to develop as independent learners who take responsibility for their learning and achieving their personal targets.
Inclusion Kingsley Primary School recognises that every child is different and we aim to meet the needs of all individuals in our school. Some children may experience greater difficulties than others in aspects of their learning and so these children are offered additional support to achieve in class. Children identifies with SEN (Special Educational Needs) have their progress closely monitored by the SEN Coordinator as well as their class teacher.
Child Protection
All staff are committed to the protection and safety of children in our care. There are two trained child protection officers ready to speak to at Kingsley if you have concerns about any child.
