The Gilgit-Baltistan United Movement (GBUM) is a political movement,supported by local politicians that demands a fully autonomous statecomprising of Gilgit and Baltistan, also known as the Northern Areas. HR Day observed as “Black Day” in Gilgit Baltistan
The political parties and civil society organizations of Gilgit Baltistanobserved the International Human Rights Day as “Black Day” under theauspices of Gilgit Baltistan United Movement at Skardu on December 10,2007.Lawyers, political leaders, human rights activists, students and people fromdifferent sections of society participated in the event. They called for endingthe more than 60 years long and on going colonial rule of Islamabad fromGilgit Baltistan so called Northern Areas of Pakistan.Addressing to the gathering Manzoor Hussain Parwana, Chairman GilgitBaltistan United Movement speak out that the natives of Gilgit Baltistan havefaced to the worst human rights abuses on the globe for last six decades. Wehave no state, no citizenship, no economic development, no constitution nohuman rights no independent media and no free judiciary. We are truly under de facto administration of Pakistan.Parwana vowed to continue struggle for autonomous state of Gilgit Baltistantill the decision of Kashmir dispute.Syed Hyder Shah Rizvi of Balawaristan National Front said that Gilgit Baltistanproblem is not only political it is a humanitarian issue.
