AT&T BRINGS MOBILE INTERNET NETWORK TO ASHLAND
As Part of AT&T’s Project VIP Investment, Local Wireless Network Upgrade
Extends Access to Advanced Products, Services and Applications
ASHLAND, VA, October 2, 2013
AT&T*today announced the availability of its mobile Internet
network in Ashland, extending access for advanced mobile services, devices and applications tocustomers throughout the commercial area between Lewistown Road and Lakeridge Parkway. AT&T is an industry leader in delivering the benefits of the mobile Internet, offering powerful and flexibleconnectivity, a wide range of smartphone and other device options, and simultaneous voice and datacapabilities for an amazing wireless voice and Internet experience.
This upgrade is part of AT&T’s Project Velocity IP (VIP), a three
-year investment plan announced lastfall to expand and enhance its IP broadband networks. Through this investment, AT&T is supporting its
customers’ growing desire for high
-speed Internet access and new mobile, app and cloud-basedservices. As part of Project VIP, AT&T plans to add more than 10,000 macro cell sites nationwide byyear-end 2015, as well as deploy more than 40,000 small cells and add more than 1,000 Distributed Antenna Systems to increase the density of its wireless network.
From 2010 through 2012, AT&T invested nearly $850 million in its Virginia wireless and wirelinenetworks. And, in the first half of 2013, we invested an additional $175 million in the Commonwealth.
