Epithelia: General Considerations
Epithelium is avascular tissue composed of cells that cover the exterior surfaces of thebody and line both internal closed cavitiesand body tubes that communicate with theexterior (the alimentary, respiratory, andgastrointestinal tract).
Epithelia form the receptors of certainsensory organs.
Epithelia form the secretory portions (orparenchyma) of glands and their ducts(a.k.a. glandular epithelium or exocrineglands).
