PREFACE
About the sponsor o the stud
The Unwanted Horse Coalition (UHC) grew out o a 2005 American Association o Equine Practitioners(AAEP) initiative, and is currently under the umbrella o the American Horse Council (AHC). It isnancially supported by participating AHC organizations and is ocused on education, communicationand responsible ownership. Participating organizations include national, regional and local associations o veterinarians, breed registries, horse associations, breeders, perormance groups, owners and equinepublications. The mission statement o the Unwanted Horse Coalition is: “To eectively reduce thenumber o unwanted horses in the United States, and to improve their welare through education andthe eorts o organizations committed to the health, saety and responsible care o the horse.”
Denition o the unanted horse
Dened by the AAEP in 2005 and since adopted by the UHC: “Horses which are no longer wantedby their current owner because they are old, injured, sick, unmanageable, ail to meet their owner’sexpectations (e.g., perormance, color or breeding), or their owner can no longer aord them.”
