When Broadcast television changed over to digital signals, in June of 2009, it immediately made it very difficult for most boaters to get a useable TV signal – especially for sailors. A sailboat’s rigging is a very effective trap for broadcast signals, so sailboat owners who were interested in TV aboard would frequently mount domed circular antennas at the mastheads, or haul up large open circular antennas on halyards.
