2.4 Special settings and instructions

2.4.1 Licensing
Licensing is active. OpenScape Desktop Client Personal Edition runs: - With CLA (Customer License Agent) installed. The CLA should be available via network but may also be installed locally. A valid license for every OpenScape Desktop Client on the CLA is required or - (SIP only) Without CLA installed in a reduced/minimum range of features (simple SIP calls). The full range of features is only available with CLA installed. - Due the changes regarding Licenses, the old licenses files valid for ODC-PE V3.2 wont work (are not compatible) with the new clients ODC-PE V4 (like this V4R0.1.22). For using license management you must enter the IP-address or name of the license server under Settings\Licensing\Server. The Loop-Back IP-address is set as default value for local CLA installation.

2.4.2 Remarks
For operating the user needs read and write rights for the default directory <\\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Siemens\OpenScape> or for the user data directory changed by the Settings Folder Tool. The released OpenScape Desktop Client Personal Edition has no connection to an OpenScape Communication Server.

2.4.3

Audio devices list

The list of supported audio devices that can be required within ours technicians or ours Products Managers. The same list can be found within the page SEN internet under the OpenScape Desktop Client Personal Edition V4 -Documents. You will find a link named Technical Description Supported Headset for a sheet with the supported audio devices per phone/client type. There is currently a restriction: Our client (OpenScape Desktop Client Personal Edition) cannot be connected to a PC with 2 devices from the same manufacturer at the same time (example: 2 devices Plantronics WO100). Release Note page 9 (of 35) [ODC-PE V4 R0.1.22]

For all GN/JABRA devices, the installation of Jabra PC Suite V2.1.5.0 (or later) is required. The Jabra PC Suite is an installation prerequisite, when using one of these new devices. The suite can be downloaded from www.jabra.com under their product support area. For PLANTRONICS devices, the new SDK its included automatically (so there is no need for additional steps, just plug the new Platronics device and configure the Audio Scheme for it).

2.4.4

Mobile Registration with OpenStage hardware devices

When using the "Mobile Registration" feature with HiPath 4000 in connection with OpenStage hardware devices the device type optiPoint 420 standard (key module with slk) must be set in OpenScape Desktop Client - available from OpenStage V1 R2. When using the "Mobile Registration" feature with HP3k in connection with OpenStage hardware devices the device type optiPoint 420 standard (key module with slk) must be set in OpenScape Desktop Client - available from HiPath 3000 V7 R5.1.0 / OpenStage V1 R2. OpenScape Desktop Client doesnt support the key layout of OpenStage phones. For this reason an optiPoint 420 standard device must be selected which has a different number of keys. In consequence OpenStage phones have more keys than OpenScape Desktop Client. By using the optiPoint 420 advanced device OpenScape Desktop Client offers more keys than the OpenStage phones. The additional number of keys cannot be synchronized with the OpenStage phones.

2.4.5

Video

Video support is only available if the SIP Service Provider is installed. In order to send video, a USB camera must be installed properly on the PC. It is highly recommended to check for driver updates regularly. The camera must be configured in menu item Video schemes under Advanced/SIP Service Provider. Press the Add-Button, select the desired camera model and provide a description. It is possible to add several cameras but they have to be of different types/models. Please note that some video restrictions can be camera related (i.e. resolution, framerate, initialization time). The video quality depends on several parameters such as negotiated codec, camera capabilities, processor performance, network connectivity and the receive capabilities of the remote party. When using video functionality, high bandwidths are causing a very high processor load, which leads to instabilities of OpenScape Desktop Client. No matter which network profile was selected, upload and download bandwidth have to be limited to 1024 kB/s. Bandwidths < 256 kB/s prevent the usage of video. Incoming video will always be accepted. In order to transmit video, the confirmation window has to be opened. It is possible to activate and deactivate video transmission through the control in the confirmation window or the control in the Video Ribbon of the Softphone tab. If video transmission is active, the control will indicate this; additionally the own image will get a red, transparent frame.

2.4.6 Local Conversation/Voice Recording

Due to legal or corporate regulation the user is possibly not allowed to use the feature of local conversationrecording. In order to prevent the user from accidental use it, the new setting Disable Voice Recording has been created in the System functions division of the SIP Service Provider settings. If checked the corresponding voice recording control doesnt appear in UI.

3.1.2

Restrictions for this Product

A parallel installation of OpenScape Desktop Client Personal Edition and optiClient 130 is not possible. Using of USB Hubs: We want to point out that there are several problems with USB hubs, which constrain the whole workstation and not only the OpenScape Desktop Client Personal Edition. It could be that you have too low bandwidth for all connected devices, so that single devices will be taken out of service. It also could be that you run in CPU performance problems, especially with camera devices. If you want to be sure that everything will work, then it is recommended to connect the USB audio devices and the USB camera devices not via a USB hub, but directly at a USB I/F connector at the workstation. In order to guarantee optimal operation and correct display of OpenScape Desktop Client Personal Edition, make sure that the following settings are fixed: Font Size Small Fonts (Normal size, 96 dpi) under \\DesktopProperties\Settings\Advanced\Display. page 12 (of 35) [ODC-PE V4 R0.1.22]

Release Note

The "Mobile HFA Logon" feature is not supported by OpenScape Desktop Client Personal Edition. For users, who want to use different phone numbers at OpenScape Desktop Client Personal Edition, they must work with different user profiles. Selection of 4-line devices and display in a 2-line Integrated phone: When selecting device types with a 4-line display (optiPoint 410/420 advance) in some operating procedures it may be impossible to display the correct lines on the only 2-line display of the Integrated phone. If the user does not like this behavior, he can fall back on using the Free phone always displaying the 4 lines. The connection between clients and Notes are no longer supported. QoS on L2 is not supported (just on L3). If you have a problem with the handset Plathosys CT 220 on Windows XP and you also have a camera with a microphone connected, please check if the mixer of the camera has only a generic name like USB Audio device. In this cases please install the latest cam drivers and have a look if the mixer get a specific device name (if not you can not use this camera together with the CT 220). Due the changes regarding Licenses, the old licenses files valid for ODC-PE V3.2 wont work (are not compatible) with the new clients ODC-PE V4.0R0.1.21. Standby mode: If the PC changes to standby mode when OpenScape Desktop Client is started OpenScape Desktop Client automatically logs off from HiPath. When the PC returns from standby mode, OpenScape Desktop Client automatically logs on again. When OpenScape Desktop Client has an active SIP or HFA connection, the change to standby mode is rejected by OpenScape Desktop Client. VPN: On some PCs the VPN tunnel is closed, if the OpenScape Desktop Client is started. Please follow this link to download the driver and install it. After this the problem should be solved. http://www.cs.columbia.edu/~hgs/research/projects/RTPMonitor/driverman.html

3.1.3

SIP Provider Restrictions

A parallel installation of OpenScape Desktop Client and optiClient 130 V5.1 / optiClient 130 S V4 is not possible. After updating OpenScape Desktop Client it is possible that the positions of windows have changed. OpenScape Desktop Client supports different webcams but not several webcams of the same type. Creative WebCam NX Ultra does not work well with OpenScape Desktop Client and is therefore not supported. The OpenScape Desktop Client supports different audio devices, but not of the same type (CT180 and CT220 are the same type!). In case of using a Siemens CAT Client the OpenScape Desktop Client screensaver module must be deleted (because of deadlocks during upgrade of OpenScape Desktop Client). page 13 (of 35) [ODC-PE V4 R0.1.22]

Release Note

Using an OpenScape Desktop Client behind a router using NAT at the moment is not supported. This only works if the router is SIP Provider aware (like Intertex IX 66). The words Notes or Exchange will not be accepted as LDAP ID by OpenScape Desktop Client because of an internal code restriction. The Microsoft Windows QoS RSVP service must not be disabled within Microsoft Windows Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services. When using the OpenScape Desktop Client Outlook-Plugin together with the Outlook-Plugins of other suppliers (z. B. CryptoEx) many different errors may occur, e. g. that OpenScape Desktop Client or Outlook cannot be closed. In such cases the processes must be closed via task manager. It is e. g. not recommended to use the CryptoEx-Plugin parallel to OpenScape Desktop Client Outlook-Plugin. No 1st party CTI support for/with SEN SIP phone devices like optiPoint 410 SIP. Only optiPoint devices are supported. OpenStage phones are not supported yet. Video interoperability with other video equipment from other manufacturers. Limited SIP telephony functionality: In case of a network failure the OpenScape Desktop Client switches to limited SIP telephony functionality. During down time all OpenScape Server based displays and services are not available or not reliable. Normalization: Ir order to allows Journal correctly log the calls like (Local Numbers, Dialable numbers or International Numbers) was defined the following default settings for Address conversion: - Normalize call numbers; - Add International prefix (+) to SIP-address; - Handle SIP-addresses as call numbers.

3.1.4

HiPath Provider Restrictions

A parallel installation of OpenScape Desktop Client Personal Edition and optiClient 130 V5.1 / optiClient 130 S V4 is not possible. In case of using a Siemens CAT Client the screensaver Module must be deleted (because of deadlocks during upgrading OpenScape Desktop Client Personal Edition). OpenScape Desktop Client Personal Edition with Mobile HFA (Mobile Logon and Logoff) in connection with OpenStage-devices is not supported because OpenScape Desktop Client Personal Edition does not support this device type. The systemwide function in HiPath 4000 for Precalling is not supported by OpenScape Desktop Client Personal Edition. The feature edit tel. number must be deactivated for OpenScape Desktop Client Personal Edition (HiPath Provider). This feature is not necessary, because the dialed number may be modified in the user interface. The keysystem function for IP-Devices in HiPath 4000 is not released and may not be used with OpenScape Desktop Client Personal Edition for this reason. QDC will not be supported by OpenScape Desktop Client Personal Edition any more. The words Notes or Exchange will not be accepted as LDAP ID by OpenScape Desktop Client Personal Edition because of an internal code restriction. When using the OpenScape Desktop Client Personal Edition Outlook-Plugin together with the Outlook-Plugins of other suppliers (z. B. CryptoEx) many different errors may occur, e. g. that OpenScape Desktop Client Personal Edition or Outlook cannot be closed. In such cases the processes must be closed via task manager. It is e. g. not recommended to use the CryptoEx-Plugin parallel to OpenScape Desktop Client Personal Edition Outlook-Plugin. H.225 Signalling on HiPath Provider using different port number: This feature is only supported by the HiPath 3000/5000 V5/V6 and HiPath 4000 V2/V3 systems. On activating this feature and logging on to a HiPath 4000 V2/V3 system DMC will automatically be switched off for the reason that DMC is not supported by HiPath 4000 with modified port numbers. On activating this feature and logging on to a HiPath 3000/5000 V4 system >= SMR 11 the standard port 1720 will be used anyway. CQ00168311 - ODC-PE SPE does not work in H4KV6.

3.1.5

Restrictions for operation with Windows VISTA

General With activated User Account Control: the latest Microsoft Windows Updates are required. With deactivated User Account Control and User in local Admin Group Windows: the Service Pack 1 is definitely required. Regarding problems with adapted hardware we recommend to load the latest driver/firmware updates of the manufacturers. The Outlook-Plugin is presently only available in English language under Outlook 2007.

Sound devices/Headsets There is a Windows Vista known issue which applies to some GN Netcom and Plantronics USB audio devices. After the device is plugged (for the first time, only), the microphone is muted. To work properly, the microphone needs to be unmuted via the properties of the Windows volume controls. If the used USB port were changed, the Windows sometimes reinstall the device and it needs to be unmuted again. Regarding the GN Netcom 8120 USB device only, there is a known incompatibility: just for the "Call pick up" feature, after a call is picked up, the microphone is always muted. The microphone volume can be adjusted only via Windows volume controls. Siemens optiPoint Handset/Headset is not supported. Plathosys CT-180 Handset is not supported. A firmware update of GN Netcom is obligatory for older versions of GN-Netcom 8120 Headset. Plantronics 9330/9350 Headsets definitely require version C software release I. Should the hardware not have this updated version you have to contact the manufacturer. For the soundcard as for audio device, after installing OpenScape Desktop Client Personal Edition, the microphone should be selected as "Voice recording" in the Audio Schemes.

3.1.6

Restrictions for operation with Windows 7

General Windows 7 supported but installation of the Service Pack 1 is recommended. The main reason is due sporadically problems (at the moment) for Windows 7 detects/recognizes USB Devices. Sometimes Windows 7 fails to detect an USB device (such Audio USB device) and due that, a missing Audio Device error occurs with our OpenScape Desktop Client Personal Edition.
