edition
The 5
th
edition of this publication covers developments of IMO legislation on technical and operational requirements, starting with the applicationdate 1
st
January 2000. The editorial deadline was 17
th
December 2004, to incorporate the outcome of the 79
th
session of the Maritime SafetyCommittee (MSC 79). No significant changes have been made to the concept of the previous, 4
th
edition; the tables of “Mandatory requirements”, of“Interpretations and Clarifications” and of “Authorization”, as well as the “Bibliography” have just been updated in accordance with the develop-ments of the last 12 months. The “Mandatory” part was supplemented by cross reference tables between the “old” and “new” regulations of thecompletely revised MARPOL Annexes I and II. The lists of essential new requirements of the 2000 amendments to SOLAS chapters II-2 and V haveremained unchanged, except for being renamed from “Annex” to “Appendix” to avoid confusion.
