Impact of ICT on IndianAcademic Libraries

Introduction:
Academic libraries in India are facing sweepingchanges on account of impact of information,communication, and technology applications in libraries.  They are progressing well in automating the housekeeping operations of libraries, such as automatedcirculation system, acquisition of books, e-books, acquisitionof periodicals, e-journals, databases, and hosting of OPACs(i.e., Online Public Accesses Catalogues) on library webpages and refining old services and starting fresh ones.
 
ICT facilitated to have informationon different forms:
•
Information in electronic form is a potential asset andthat it can be vigorously applied in any environment.
•
 The advent and spread of electronic formats has madea major difference in the information processing andservices environments in libraries.
•
 The emergence of the internet and web as thedominant path way and repository of electronicinformation resources has brought great impact onlibrary services.
•
In an academic environment libraries act as facilitatorsto provide right information to the right user at the righttime.
