60th Primetime Emmy® Awards
, covering the periodof June 1, 2007 through May 31, 2008, were announced today by the Academy of Television Arts &Sciences from the Leonard H. Goldenson Theatre, North Hollywood, California. The TelevisionAcademy’s Chairman of the Board & CEO John Shaffner presided, assisted by Kristin Chenowethand Neil Patrick Harris.On
Sunday, September 21 at 8:00 pm (ET/PT)
the telecast awarding Primetime Emmys in 29categories will be presented before a black-tie audience and televised by the
ABC TelevisionNetwork
from the NOKIA Theatre L.A. LIVE.
 
This year's Emmy telecast will be executive-produced by Ken Ehrlich and directed by Louis J. Horvitz. The Television Academy's GovernorsBall will follow the telecast at the Los Angeles Convention Center.Of the 51 nominations for comedy and drama programs as well as lead and supporting performers,21 were not included among last year’s nominees -- a 40% change. First-time nominees include
 Damages, Dexter and Mad Men
in the drama series category.

are the firsttwo basic cable series to be nominated in the drama series program category.

One, more than one or no award can be given in a juried area. There are nonominations. The finalists are not to be counted as nominees. The announcement of one, more thanone or no winner will be made at a later date. Two additional awards may also be given forEngineering Development and the Governors Award. These awards, if any, will be announced laterthis month.
Nomination rosters will be finalized during the period July 17 to July 31, 2008. The rostersmay be revised in cases where names or titles are incorrect, or appeals for changes—includingthe addition or removal of names—are approved by the Primetime Awards Committee.Producer eligibility is based on both title and function. A review of title and function will beconducted by the Producers Peer Group, and the nominees in the program categories that are“TBD” in the press release will be announced later this month.
