discussion following Dr. Ziadeh’s presentation. SCPSS president, Dr. Osama Kadi, gave a presentation onthe report days later at aSyria Relief Networkconference in Gaziantep. Such was the interest in the report,that the supply of available copies was immediately exhausted. On August 20, 2013, Dr. Osama Kadi met with representatives of Germany, the United Arab Emirates, Japan,the United States, Italy, South Korea, Britain, New Zealand, the European Commission, and the Netherlandsin a preparatory meeting for a conference of the Friends of Syria group. Dr. Kadi briefed the representativeson the report and distributed electronic copies. The government officials expressed their support for thereport. Prior to the preparatory meeting of the Friends of Syria Group, Dr. Osama Kadi and Dr. Hosam Hafez, asenior researcher for the Syrian Expert House, traveled on August 15
to Ankara, Turkey to brief representatives of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the report. Dr. Kadi and Dr. Hafez alsopersonally thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the role it played in facilitating the Syrian Center’sresearch process during the project. On September 17, 2013, Dr. Radwan Ziadeh, Fadel Shakfeh, Executive Director of the Syrian Network forHuman Rights and a member of the Syrian Expert House, and Mohannad al-Hasani, president of the SyrianOrganization for Human Rights and also a Syrian Expert House member, met with officials from theInternational Commission of Inquiry on Syria in Geneva, Switzerland. Members of the Commission of Inquiry present in the meeting included Paulo Sérgio Pinheiro, chairman of the Commission, Karen KoningAbuzayd, and Vitit Muntarbhorn. In the meeting, Dr. Ziadeh and the members of the Syrian Expert Housespecifically discussed rule of law, transitional justice, and future options for prosecution in Syria. The same day Dr. Radwan Ziadeh met with Lakhdar Brahimi, the United Nations and Arab League SpecialEnvoy to Syria. In the meeting, Dr. Ziadeh briefed Special Envoy Brahimi on the report. The two alsodiscussed at length the state of the Syrian opposition and the value of the report for possibly leading toprogress on future negotiations under the Geneva agreement. Finally, throughout the past month, SCPSS representatives have met with Washington-based organizationsand think tanks to brief them on
Syria Transition Roadmap
. These organizations included: the NationalDemocratic Institute, the International Republican Institute, the International Foundation for ElectoralSystems, New America, the Center for International Private Enterprise, and Freedom House.
