Nominations and applications are invited for the position of Dean of the Graduate College of Education atSan Francisco State University.
 ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY.
SF State is a large, comprehensive, urban university located in a vibrant andbeautiful city with a rich intellectual and cultural life. For more than 100 years, the University has distinguisheditself as an active center of academic scholarship, creative innovation and civic engagement. SF State offersgraduate and undergraduate instruction for professional and technical careers as well as a broad liberal artseducation. Baccalaureate degrees are offered in 118 academic areas, in addition to masters degrees offered in93 areas of specialization, an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership, and 3 joint doctoral degrees with the Universityof California. SF State is a culturally and linguistically diverse campus, one of the 23 that make up the CaliforniaState University (CSU) system.
RESPONSIBILITIES.
The Dean is the chief academic, fiscal, and administrative officer of the College, andreports to the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs. We seek a person of vision with proven leadershipskills. The Dean sets College priorities and policies; develops and manages College budgets; promotescollaboration and cooperation among academic units; and works closely with students, faculty, staff andadministrators to foster and sustain an environment of academic excellence through a strong commitment toteaching, research, scholarship, community service, and interdisciplinary endeavors. In addition, the Dean isexpected to lead, support and ensure ongoing development of academic and administrative college initiatives; topromote relationships with alumni; and to play a leadership role in the College’s fundraising and relationship-building with the external community. The Dean should have a commitment to the College and Universitymissions that include diversity and excellence in recruiting and retaining faculty and staff.
QUALIFICATIONS.
Applicants for this position should 1) have an earned doctorate from an accreditedinstitution, 2) possess an outstanding record of leadership and service to the community, 3) have successfulmanagement and administrative experience including managing budgets and personnel, 4) possess aknowledge of the varied disciplines of the College with a breadth of experience in education, 5) have anoutstanding record of academic activities including University teaching, research, external funding, and service,and 6) have a commitment to fundraising. In addition, a successful candidate should demonstrate a commitmentto multicultural education and service to the urban community, and possess excellent interpersonal skills.
 
COMPENSATION.
The salary for this position is competitive, commensurate with experience andqualifications. A liberal benefits package is provided and the position is included in the CSU ManagementPersonnel Plan. This position is a “designated position” in the CSU’s Conflict of Interest Code. The successfulcandidate accepting this position is required to file Conflict of Interest forms subject to the regulations of the Fair Political Practices Commission.

The College has
 
a student body of 1085 FTES and isone of six colleges within the University. With 85 full and part-time faculty and 24 support staff, the College isprimarily a graduate school, offering Master’s Degree programs and credential programs in a variety of fieldsand also one undergraduate degree program and two doctoral degrees—an Ed.D. Degree in EducationalLeadership and a joint doctorate in Special Education with U.C. Berkeley. The College also actively participatesin an extensive and diverse array of community outreach projects, research projects, and collaborative projectsfunded through the U.S. Department of Education, private foundations, and other funding sources. The Collegeis active in international education.The College is organized into the Departments of Elementary Education, Equity Leadership Studies &Instructional Technologies, Secondary Education, Special Education and the Ed.D. in Educational Leadershipdoctoral program.
