Genesis

1:1-2

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless andempty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hoveringover the waters.

Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." So God created man in his own image, inthe image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into hisnostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.

The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and takecare of it.

For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and theywill become one flesh. The man and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.

“You will not surely die," the serpent said to the woman. "For God knows that when youeat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye,and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some toher husband, who was with her, and he ate it. Then the eyes of both of them wereopened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and madecoverings for themselves.

9:11-15 NoahCovenant

I establish my covenant with you: Never again will all life be cut off by the waters of aflood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth." And God said, "This is thesign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature withyou, a covenant for all generations to come: I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and itwill be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant betweenme and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become aflood to destroy all life.

The LORD said, "If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to dothis, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. Come, let us go down andconfuse their language so they will not understand each other.”

The Call of Abram:

The LORD had said to Abram, "Leave your country, your peopleand your father's household and go to the land I will show you. "I will make you into agreat nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you."

God's Covenant With Abram:

After this, the word of the LORD came to Abram in avision: "Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward.

Then the angel of the LORD told her, "Go back to your mistress and submit to her." Theangel added, "I will so increase your descendants that they will be too numerous tocount."

"As for me, this is my covenant with you: You will be the father of many nations. Nolonger will you be called Abram; your name will be Abraham, for I have made you afather of many nations. I will make you very fruitful; I will make nations of you, andkings will come from you.

Then God said, "Yes, but your wife Sarah will bear you a son, and you will call himIsaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for hisdescendants after him.

Then the LORD said to Abraham, "Why did Sarah laugh and say, 'Will I really have achild, now that I am old?' Is anything too hard for the LORD ? I will return to you at theappointed time next year and Sarah will have a son."

Then Abraham prayed to God, and God healed Abimelech, his wife and his slave girls sothey could have children again, for the LORD had closed up every womb in Abimelech'shousehold because of Abraham's wife Sarah.

At that time Abimelech and Phicol the commander of his forces said to Abraham, "Godis with you in everything you do.

Then God said, "Take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go to theregion of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains I willtell you about."
