The client in the pharmaceutical realm hasdierent needs and demands thana packaged-goods consumer, but Schawkmeets those demands with equal skill.The client must be condent that productinormation is correct, and Schawk’s processessignicantly improve the dependability othis crucial inormation, across languagesand geographies. Increasingly, too, aspatents expire and the sector becomes morecompetitive, drug packaging emphasizesaesthetics, such as highly designed packsrefecting sophisticated, multi-mediamarketing plans. The Schawk Solution
Schawk developed a Pan-European packagingworkfow process. Appointed as the soleartwork and premedia supplier, Schawk putin place a team o on-sites within the client’sEuropean packaging services hub and createda dedicated Lie Sciences production team atone o Schawk’s own UK sites. This allowedSchawk to develop processes and qualitysystems and to create a culture within Schawkspecically ocused on the needs o thepharmaceutical sector. Eectively, Schawkunctioned as an extension o the client’sown packaging team and quickly realizedsignicant increases in right-rst-time scoresacross all European packaging.A vital component in Schawk’s successulcollaboration with this client was theestablishment o a production resourcecapacity that specializes in the pharmaceuticalsector but also can fex to manage largefuctuations in volumes o activity – oten usingSchawk’s Asian oces or ’round-the-clockwork on deadline. The shit rom servicing onesite to our meant a quadrupling in activitylevels, necessitating a scaled-up productionteam that can handle peak cycles romdistinct plants, even when they don’t coincide.
The Client Challenge
The client’s our principal plants in Europe hadmanaged the packaging process locally, usingour distinct regional processes and multipleartwork suppliers or each plant. There was asignicant lack o standard working practices,so too much time was being lost in the artworkphase and ineciencies within the processmeant that costs were high. The high numbero external suppliers involved across theregion also meant there was greater risko quality incidents.These were the inherited challenges, but anysolution posed its own new challenges. A ullEuropean rollout required satisying everyone’sexpectations within one workfow solution,no longer managing the expectations o ourclients individually. Furthermore, the plantshad all worked dierently or many years, andsome o their idiosyncratic ways o workingcould not disappear overnight. Schawk had tobe sensitive to the operational, cultural andlinguistic nuances o plants in our dierentcountries and strike a balance betweenprocess consistency and attention to nuanceso service style.
