Timeline For AIEResidency Artists
1-2 months before the residency:
Participate in the planning meeting todiscuss, confirm and schedule all detailsof the residency.
Share personal background, vision, andobjectives for the residency withparticipating teachers and administrators.
Develop suggestions for possible fieldtrips, Visiting Artists or special events.
Plan the residency’s daily class activitiesas well as the staff ProfessionalDevelopment Workshop.
Determine supplies/materials list; discussprocedures, responsibilities and timeline for ordering and reimbursement (if applicable).
An AIE Mentor will contact first time AIEartists to offer support in the process andset up the on-site visits.
1-2 weeks before the residency:
Provide teachers/staff with any materialsthat will help staff and students toprepare for the residency: slides,photographs, stories, poems, music,topics or web links that can inspirediscussion, research or journaling.
Touch base with the On-Site Coordinator to confirm that all supplies/materials areon hand, confirm the schedule anddiscuss any last-minute details.
Be available to communicate withteachers/staff and AIE Partner by phoneor e-mail.
Notify AIE Partner of any changes inresidency design or schedule.
On the first day of the residency:
Arrive early to allow time needed for:signing in at the main office, gettingschool visitor ID badge (if needed),verifying any last-minute schedulechanges (fire drills, early dismissal,assemblies), and setting up for teachingclass sessions.
Introduce yourself to students and staff,share your work experience as an artistand explain what the residency willinvolve.
Plan an opening activity that engages alllearners and sets a tone for respect, joyand collaboration.
Speak with residency classroom teachersand/or On-Site Coordinator after class or at the end of the day to gather helpful feedback, to discuss any problems or concerns and to determine anynecessary modifications.
