The week in photos
z
This past week was a busy one for local Rotarians. Page 2 has some photos of the District 5170 Roast and Toast event as well as the AmericanCancer Society’s Relay for Life of which our club was a sponsor!
Twenty-five years ago one mandecided he would do something to bringawareness to and raise money for thefight against cancer. He raised a littleover $20,000. From that humble beginning, “Relay for Life” events havesprouted up all over the country. One of the biggest and bestorganized event isright here inCampbell. The Relayfor Life walk-a-thonis in its 9th year here.2009 markedthe first year that our club took part in thefestivities sponsored by the American Cancer Society. Wewere Bronze Sponsors of the eventwhich got our logo on the event’swebsite and on the back of the T-shirtthat walkers wore around the track at theCampbell Community Center. For our first attempt at putting together a team,we must say that we were small, butdisorganized! But each participant keptsaying, “Next year....” followed by anidea for our camp site, or member involvement, or how to set out a bunchof luminarias, how to bring food, etc.Sponsoring the event was the brainchild of JerryCummings, and amongthose who were seenwalking the track duringthe 24 hour event were
John, Rick
and
Ravi

who supported other teams in this very worthwhile effort.Others also took part: more names later.Just as Rotary International istaking on the fight against Polio, so isthe American Cancer Society fightingthe dreaded disease of cancer.
