Description
Revised data from Costing Out Study of 2007. Proposes a level of funding for public schools to assure that all students meet adequate yearly progress by 2014 as mandated by No Child Left Behind of 2000. Errors in the first release of the study inflated the amount of dollars many districts were proposed to need.
The study assumes that school districts are complying with the state's academic standards for Reading, writing speaking, mathematics, science and technology, ecology and the environment, history, civics and government, and more.
A recent study of Pennsylvania high school final exams in core academic subjects found they are NOT in compliance.
Although Pennsylvania Academic Standards for mathematics and reading/writing became law in 1999, many districts have still not aligned their curriculum to them. This means students are unlikely to score proficient or better due to lack of appropriately focused instruction, not the under funding of schools.
Those school districts that revised their curriculum to the standards have seen a dramatic improvement in student academic achievement without an increase in spending
