There is a definite cycle thatcombines the good times with often subtleabusive acts that allow the abuser to gainpower and control over the relationshipand, eventually, lead the victim toemotional dependence and learnedhelplessness. By the time a pattern hasemerged there are often children involved,financial ties, and emotional bonds that aredifficult to break.
