Should you be elected, what are three specific areas you'd like to change, address, improve or further research, and how specifically would you go about it?:
Three areas I will work to improve or address are: (1) increasing and improvingthe level of transparency that the trustees provide regarding the communicationof township business to the residents, (2) improving fiscal responsibility througha disciplined process of budget development so that township funds providemaximum value to the residents, and (3) increasing the involvement of localservice organizations in the preservation and improvement of our townshipresources. The Township residents have a right to transparency when it comes to how theresources we voted to provide are managed. Understanding why more taxburden should be placed on our residents is a critical need that is not and has notbeen provided to township residents. I am not convinced that additional taxdollars are needed based on my current understanding of the state of our budget. If elected, I would work to improve the level of transparency of township businessby providing more information to residents on matters of importance, such as thestatus and management of operating budgets and cash flow. I would accomplishthis primarily by including this information on township meeting minutes, andthrough information portals such as the township web-site.Improved fiscal responsibility is needed by our Trustees and DepartmentManagers. Today, this process simply does not exist. For a long time now,Township Department managers have not been held accountable for managingour tax dollars within budget guidelines. Instead, Trustees have opted to bailthem out. In turn, they have asked us to foot a bill that is not well understood. The residents should expect Township managers to be fiscally responsible at alllevels. A disciplined, planned approach to spending coupled with accountabilityis needed. A process that better explains how funds the taxpayers voted for areinadequate, and why more is needed, is a “Must-Have” action before asking for additional funding through tax levies. When this process is implemented, theresidents will know that their tax dollars are being spent wisely and be better equipped to support any additional funding requests.
